Muhammad Ali's Greatness is remembered by many In EBONY Magazine’s August 2016 Issue
EBONY magazine bids farewell to legendary boxer and activist Muhammad Ali with a special tribute in their August 2016 issue.

Guest editor Marc Lamont Hill, actors Nate Parker and Don Cheadle, author Dream Hampton, scholar Eric Dyson and Ali’s beloved daughter/retired boxer Laila Ali pay their respects to the G.O.A.T., dubbed the Black Superman, with short stories reflecting on their fondest memories of the international star. In an exclusive interview, Laila will open up about some special and intimate moments she shared with her dad.
In addition to the Ali tribute, EBONY recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Black Panther Party. From a history lesson on the group’s beginnings to a full-out syllabus for those (still) not in the know, this feature is a much-needed primer in the era of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

“When you read about Ali’s legacy, combined with the mission of the Black Panthers, you cannot help but draw striking parallels to the civil rights struggles we still face today,” explains Kyra Kyles, new editor-in-chief and senior vice president of digital editorial for EBONY Media Operations, LLC via press release. “This is really an eye-opening series of stories and clearly, one that needs to be shared with current and future generations.”

#RHoA NEWS: Okay Is NeNe leaving RHoA or Not? And Peters Talks to Wendy about Divorce!
Okay, so we reported Tuesday that NeNe Leakes is not going to be returning to The Real Housewives of Atlanta, because a Bravo producer said that she’s simply too busy.
NeNe saw all of the tweets pouring in, and she decided to step on Twitter and say that it’s all lies, and that she’s not too busy for #RHOA.
So, that would mean that she’s coming back; right?
Wrong. A Twitter user assumed the same thing:
So, NeNe confirms she isn’t coming back, but instead of being too busy, it looks like she was maybe canned from the show, or her and Bravo couldn’t come to an agreement.
I guess since it wasn’t NeNe’s fault, and she wanted to come back, but she’s not…

Was she fired?
NeNe was the only OG left, as she joined the cast back in 2008 for the very first season of the show.
However, you should keep in mind that this isn’t the first time NeNe has made an announcement like this, and then returned to the show, so who knows?

However I wish they make up their minds!

#EMPIRE: Kid Cudi Joins the Cast of ‘Empire’
We know Kid Cudi has been hard at work prepping his new album Passion, Pain and Demon Slayin’ for a summer release, but it looks like he’s also been hard at work outside of the studio, and in front of the camera. Having recently starred in the indie crime flick Vincent N Roxxy alongside Emile Hirsch and Zoë Kravitz, the Cleveland artist/actor is now taking his talents to the hit FOX show, Empire.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Cudi will have a recurring role in the upcoming third season as Gram, “an independent musician who is a rival to Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) both in the studio and in life” — not least because Gram is dating Hakeem’s ex, Tiana (Serayah McNeill). Cudi has already shown his range as an actor, from playing a grease monkey in Need For Speed to a gay best friend in James White, so we’re sure he’ll have no trouble tackling this drama-filled role.

Empire season three premieres September 21 at 9pm EST on FOX. Birdman, French Montana and Xzibit are also set to make cameos in the new season.

Producers Apologize to Kelly Price After her controversial performance during the Gospel segment of Indiana’s Black Expo!
*R&B singer Kelly Price came under fire after she performed Sunday at the Indiana Black Expo. She hit the stage singing her 2000 remake of Shirley Murdock’s “As We Lay,” which is a reflection on a one-night stand with a married man. The problem with her performance is that she delivered the track during the gospel portion of the event.

Black Twitter responded to news of the performance as expected. Folks questioned the song choice and used GIFs to imagine the reaction of those in the crowd, per Jet Magazine.

In a video posted to her Instagram account Sunday evening, Price said she had “a very, very disheartening experience” at the expo after she was told that her performance was inappropriate. “I performed on the gospel stage today. I was asked to perform there. I was asked to do my music, not my gospel music, but my music, which is what I did,” Price told her followers.

The organizers of the Indiana Black Expo have come to Kelly’s defense. Producers have issued the following statement clarifying the singer’s appearance.
“Ms. Price was never scheduled to perform as part of the IBE’s Gospel Explosion. Ms. Price was originally scheduled to perform two songs at 3:00 p.m., an hour before the start of the Gospel Explosion. A last minute change in schedule resulted in Ms. Price performing close to the start of the Gospel Explosion,” a statement sent to JET read. “IBE has much respect for Ms. Price and is a huge fan and supporter of her work. IBE apologizes to Ms. Price for the change in schedule that caused people to believe that performance was part of our Gospel Explosion.”
After blasting hypocritical Christians, Price — who grew up the daughter of a preacher and has also recorded gospel albums — thanked event producers for setting the record straight.

“I understand that some people in the audience were offended,” Price acknowledged. “Thank you, Indy Black Expo for standing in truth with me on this. I appreciate you for inviting me to be a part of this weekend’s festivities. I look forward to being with you again.”

Dwyane Wade’s Ex Wife Dishes On His Mistress In Tell-All Book
Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, the ex wife of Dwyane Wade, spills all sorts of tea in her autobiography, The True Story For God’s Glory: The Life of Siohvaughn L. Funches-Wade. The NBA baller’s former high school sweetheart admits she became “an arrogant diva” to try to fit in with other NBA wives, shares allegations made in court during a divorce battle that Wade beat her, and even recalls being contacted by one of Wade’s mistresses.
She says living with Wade in Miami was like living in a “$4 million … prison” and alleges that an unnamed former teammate of Wade’s with the Miami Heat “suggested that I have an affair right after a game while still inside the Miami Heat Arena,” and writes about regretting an abortion that she had.
Funches-Wade writes extensively about her Christian faith, stating that it ultimately helped her to rebound from their difficult divorce and go to law school.

She opens up about the fall-out of their marriage, alleging in the book that he’d tell her “I want to sow my wild oats” and “This isn’t your money and if you leave, nobody is going to want you and you aren’t going to have anything without me. You will end up having to go back and live at your mama’s house!”
Funches-Wade even claims that Wade was unfaithful in their marriage, writing that at one point, she found pictures and instant messages from other women on his phone. According to her, the breaking point was when a woman called her in the middle of the night and told her she had just slept with Wade. The woman gave “a description of the underwear he was wearing,” she wrote.

Still, Funches-Wade writes that money was the cause of her greatest struggle:
"I got divorced and had both my children wrongfully taken from me, I lost my home and my health, my reputation was destroyed. But it was all nothing compared to the pain I felt from the love of money. From that pain I am still healing to this day. I had never felt in my life true emptiness until my bank account was full."

Funches-Wade, who once sued Wade’s second wife, actress Gabrielle Union, alleging she broke up her marriage with Wade, returns to court Sept. 9. The book is available on Amazon. [Chicago Tribune]
