The Daily Buzz For July 18

Mariah Carey is on Cover Of CLASH Magazine!
Muva is all kindsa photoshop. But we love it! MiMi let the UK mag into her pop queen, glittering life while in Paris to catch them up with her European tour.  She did her interview while getting in several expensive shopping trips, being swarmed by fans and paparazzi, and maneuvering with a bustling entourage.
In a candid interview, the ‘Fantasy’ hitmaker opened up to Clash about her reality TV series, her intimate relationship with her fans, motherhood, and determination that’s driven her from hard times to world domination.

Mariah, who's currently on vacay aboard a yacht somewhere on a European coast with her fiance James Packer, told the mag about how her twins ROc & Roe manage with the jetsetting life they've surely become accustomed to.
"I want them to still feel normal," Carey told Clash. "So, if they don't like traveling around at some point, they won't have to travel around," she said. "But they love traveling. They love flying. If I keep them home for like five days, they're like, 'When are we going on an airplane?'"

"They really love it," she added. "They love doing all these things and seeing places—they love the Eiffel Tower. It's amazing, you know what I mean? I just have the best time with them."

Next up for the Glitter queen: Another round of her Vegas residency in August and September, then three shows in Brazil in November.

#EMPIRE: We have the Season 3 Poster for EMPIRE inside!
Empire ended with a serious cliffhanger last May that featured Andre (Trai Byers) walking in on a fight between Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) and Anika (Grace Gealey) -- just in time to see what appears to be one (or both) of them falling off a New York City roof. However, that cliffhanger is not the primary focus of a new Season 3 poster that was released via Entertainment Weekly on Thursday.

This poster is promising a very different version of Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) given what we saw in the Season 2 finale, when Cookie stormed off after Lucious married Anika to protect her from having to testify against him in court.
This teaser poster, however, is making it appear that the on-again, off-again couple is back to ruling together. Or could it be that they're just the warring parties that will be running the show next season? If that's the case, well then, it would just be business as usual over at the home of the Lyons.
Empire returns September 21 on Fox.

New Music: Chris Brown Feat. Tyrese, R. Kelly, Usher & Tank – Back To Sleep (Secret Garden Remix)
This past spring, Chris Brown surprised fans everywhere by releasing 3 all-star remixes to his hit single “Back To Sleep.” However, there was one person who seemed to be curiously missing, after it was announced that he would appear on one of them.  That person was the Vision Implementor himself, Tyrese.

Well, the multi-talented singer/actor has now surprised us early Friday morning (July 15), with a mega remix featuring himself, along with the previously released verses by R. Kelly, Usher, and Tank.

Titled, “Secret Garden Remix,” Tyrese comes in strong with a provocative verse, singing, “Sh*t’s so hard I had to do a remix / Girl you got my sh*t so hard, p**sy got me in my feelings.”  Continuing, “You gon’ get this chocolate / Capricorn in this bed / Girl I don’t really do a lot of talkin’, but watch me back up every word that I said.”

Welp, ok. I know many of you are just getting your day started, but Tyrese, Chris, Kellz, Usher, and Tank have plans for you to stay in bed this Friday morning.

Hip Hop Wars: Joe Budden Fires Back At Drake On ‘Afraid’
Joe Budden attacks back. Just hours after Drake sent some shots his way on French Montana’s “No Shopping,” the Slaughterhouse MC retaliates with “Afraid.” Sampling Drizzy’s Thank Me Later cut “The Resistance,” Budden delivers a slew of punchlines and schemes.

At one point, Jumpoff refers to the 6 God’s Apple deal restricting his career. “It’s bigger than rap battles,” he rhymes. “A word for the digital cash castle / Don’t let a glitch in the Mac crash you / Unrelaxed, wearing political straps, shackled / Now clash paths with dad, the original bad apple.”
Later on the track, he calls out Drake for not responding to Pusha T’s various disses. “Maybe y’all should be shook of me,” he raps. “Should know I’d kill him at even the slightest push of me / And when his team press up shirts, I’ll help ’em push a tee / Should it read: he pressed buttons but wouldn’t push a tee / Gotta be buggin’, maybe he dunno where Pusha be.”

TRAGIC: 3 Baton Rouge Police Officers Killed In Ambush – 3 Others Injured
*(Via MSNBC) – Three officers in Baton Rouge were shot and killed in an apparent ambush Sunday morning, the city’s mayor told MSNBC, less than two weeks after a fatal police shooting sparked protests in the city.
At least four others were injured in the shooting, Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden said. He said the officers were responding to a call of shots fired when they were gunned down.

The condition of the gunman was not immediately clear, a Louisiana State Police spokesman told NBC News.
Multiple police units were stationed at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where the stricken officers were believed to be undergoing treatment at a trauma center, the Associated Press reported.

A reporter with the Associated Press who was at the scene saw police vehicles with lights flashing massed about a half mile from the police headquarters on Airline Highway. Police armed with long guns on the road stopped at least two vehicles driving away from the scene and checked their trunks and vehicles before allowing them to drive away, the reporter said.

Oh? Tatyana Ali Sues Warner Bros; Claims Studio Ripped Off Her Idea For ‘The Real’
*Somebody over at Warner Bros and Telepictures TV has got some ‘splainin’ to do as far as Tatyana Ali is concerned because she’s filed a lawsuit that the two entities stole her idea. In court documents, the actress says she came up with the concept for “The Real” and eventually pitched to execs in 2012 but was told they “decided to decline.”

Interestingly, she points that “The Real” debuted about six months later as “a direct production” of the concept she came up with, according to the suit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, reports Deadline.

“With a great deal of disappointment and complete disbelief,” the suit says, Ali “witnessed [her] concept come to life on major network television at the hands of the Defendant Corporations.”

Warner Bros did not respond to Deadline’s request for comment.
Ms. Ali’s suit (read it here) claims she came up with an idea for a reality-based daytime talk show with “a unique and innovative format, which featured an eclectic group of engaging female celebrity hosts, each aged within their 20’s and 30’s … designed to pique the interest of the younger side of the mid-life/mid-career female population and featured a variety of contemporary discussion topics in a relaxed and informal setting.” Meanwhile “The Real” – featuring co-hosts Adrienne Bailon, Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Tamara Mowry – premiered in July 2013 for a test run on Fox-owned stations.
“The five female host panel cast members very closely embody and mirror the personal and professional profiles of the specific and potential female celebrity hosts openly proposed in writing and in discussion by the Plaintiff during ‘pitch’ meetings she held with the Executives,” the suit says. “The Defendant Corporations did not at any time, directly or indirectly, acknowledge the use of the Plaintiff’s Concept.”

The show is now in national syndication and has been renewed through Spring, 2018 .
The execs who were at that meeting in December 2012 were Hilary Estes McLoughlin, then-president of creative affairs at CBS Television Distribution, and Sheila Bouttier, who was SVP Development at Telepictures Productions. Both are named as defendants along with Warner Bros Entertainment, Warner Bros Domestic Television Distribution and Telepictures.

The suit seeks unspecified damages from “all rightful gains, profits, and advantages derived by the Defendants” and the formation of a collective trust for Ali of “designated percentages of the proceeds resulting from past, current and future production and airing of The Real television program.”

Nia Long Lands Role In Forest Whitaker's New Roxanne Shante Biopic!
The story of female hip-hop trailblazer Roxanne Shante is getting the biopic treatment.
Co-produced by Forest Whitaker, Roxanne Roxanne will reportedly tell the story of Roxanne's early beginnings in hip-hop as a fearless 14-year-old MC who set the rap world ablaze with the release of her "Roxanne's Revenge" response record in reply to the UTFO single "Roxanne Roxanne," in 1984. The film will chronicle the infamous Roxanne Hip-Hop Wars that spawned as a result of the track and take viewers back to the early days of hip-hop culture in the '80s.

Filming for the project is currently underway in Queens and Roxanne, whose real name is Lolita Shante Gooden, shared a photo of herself and Nia Long on set earlier this week. Taking to her Facebook page, she revealed in the photo's caption that Nia would be playing the role of "Miss Peggy" as the two took a break for a quick photo op. "When your sister Nia Long is playing your Mama MissPeggy You can only feel so honored and so so blessed. #roxanneroxanne The Movie The Roxanne Shante story #plzbelieveit," she wrote.
The movie will also feature actors portraying several other hip-hop icons including Nas, Biz Markie and Kurtis Blow. Nina Yang Bongiovi, Mimi Valdés, and Erica Brady will join Forest Whitaker as co-producers, according to an earlier report from ShowBiz.

Britney Spears’ “Make Me” Conquers Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling”
She’s always had a knack for coming out on top, so it’s not surprising that Britney Spears has the #1 single on iTunes once again.
On Thursday night (July 14) the “Baby One More Time” singer released “Make Me,” the lead track from her forthcoming ninth studio album, and it quickly began the climb up the chart.

WATCH!

The R&B-flavored ditty is currently more popular than Spears’ ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling,” and it shows no signs of slowing down. Britney sings, "I just want you to make / Me move / Like it ain't a choice for you / Like you got a job to do. Just want you to raise / My roof / something sensational / And make me ooh, ooh, ooh.

Box Office News: The Pets SLAYS the Ghostbusters!
For a fifth straight weekend in a row an animated film has taken the #1 spot at the box office as Illumination and Universal's The Secret Life of Pets followed up its record-breaking opening with a chart-topping sophomore session, pushing the launch of Sony's Ghostbusters reboot to second. Meanwhile, Finding Dory has now become the highest grossing animated release of all-time domestically as Warner Bros. adds two new films to 2016's century club with The Legend of Tarzan and The Conjuring 2. The weekend was down 26% from last week and ~17% compared to last year, yet there is still plenty to highlight.

The Secret Life of Pets finished #1 for a second weekend in a row with an estimated $50.5 million (51.5% drop), bringing its domestic cume to an impressive $203.1 million after just ten days in release. This already places the animated hit higher than Disney's Tangled and just behind Pixar's Ratatouille on the all-time animated chart.

Finishing second was Sony's Ghostbusters, which matched the weekend forecast with an estimated $46 million. This is the largest domestic opening for both director Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy. Attention will now turn to the film's future prospects, mostly due to how well Feig and McCarthy's films have performed beyond their opening weekend.

More realistically, we're probably looking at a domestic run around $135-145 million. Ghostbusters carries a $144 million budget (net after tax incentives and rebates) and received an "A-" CinemaScore for the under 25 crowd, and an overall "B+", on par with Bridesmaids and Spy and just behind The Heat's "A-".

Internationally, Ghostbusters delivered $19.1 million from three major territories along with a few smaller markets. The opening included $6.1 million from the UK where the film opened on July 11 along with $3.7 million from Australia and $2.2 million in Brazil. Key upcoming releases include Russia and Italy on July 28, Germany (Aug 4), France (Aug 10), Mexico and Spain on August 12 and Japan on August 19.
