Chaka Khan Checks Into Rehab for Prescription Pain Medication Addiction!
Chaka Khan canceled her upcoming performance at the California State Fair — as well as all her performances through the end of July — and checked herself into rehab for an addiction to prescription pain medication, her rep confirmed to the Modesto Bee.
“[Khan has] voluntarily entered the program to get healthy and stay that way,” representatives for the 63-year-old music legend said. According to the paper, the singer has already enrolled in rehab and an aftercare program.
Celebrities Who Have Been to Rehab
Khan, who is best known for hits such as “I’m Every Woman” and “I Feel For You,” was close friends and oft-collaborator with the late Prince, who was found to have had a longtime struggle with a painkiller addiction leading up to his death in April.
While Prince’s addiction stemmed from chronic pain after a hip injury, Khan’s representatives have not identified the cause for the songstress’ addiction.
Khan has battled with drug and alcohol addiction in the past, and has been to rehab several time before.
“We are extremely disappointed Chaka Khan canceled because we knew how much the community was looking forward to it, yet at the same time we wish her the best in her health and full recovery,” State Fair spokeswoman Adrenna Alkhas said in a statement. “We are very excited to announce that Jody Watley and Shalamar will be replacing her. They will bring a high-energy performance that our guests will love.”
Khan’s performance at the California State Fair was originally set for Monday, July 11.
Our prayers and well wishes go out to her at this time!
