IT'S WORLD AIDS DAY!
Celebrated every year on 1 December, World Aids Day 2015 calls for expanding antiretroviral therapy to all people living with HIV, the key to ending the Aids epidemic within a generation, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The day is also a way to demonstrate international solidarity for people living with HIV and to commemorate the spirit of those who have died battling the deadly disease.
The theme of World Aids Day 2015 is: Getting to zero; end Aids by 2030. The federal theme this year is: The time to act is now.
A U.N. fact sheet shows that the stakes are high. There were 36.9 million people in the world living with HIV, and 38.1 million have become infected with the virus since 2000. While that number may seem high, new HIV infections have decreased by 35 percent in that same period. Infections for children have decreased by 58 percent during that time as well. Furthermore, the recent high-profile revelation that actor Charlie Sheen has HIV may further elevate awareness of the disease,
In the United States, the White House is hosting a World Aids Day event online. Watch the event live from 1pm to 3.15pm ET
World AIDS Day is held every year. It calls on people to unite in their fight against the epidemic and remember those who have died from the disease. It calls on people to unite in solidarity for those living with the disease. Buying a red ribbon, organizations say, is a good way to do that. People remember testing and prevention are the best ways to protect yourself. Continue to remmeber those who stricken with this disease!
