The Daily Buzz For Dec 10

‘TIME’ Names 2015 Person Of The Year: German Chancellor Angela Merkel
‘TIME’ magazine has officially named its person of the year for 2015. After narrowing down the field to 8 earlier this week, it’s been revealed that German chancellor Angela Merkel has received the title.
Angela Merkel, 61, is TIME magazine’s Person of the Year for 2015. The female German chancellor beat out Donald Trump, Caitlyn Jenner and more to earn the title, which was announced on Dec. 8.

Angela, who has been the Chancellor of Germany since 2005, has been at the center of major news events this year, including economic strife in the Eurozone and Europe’s ongoing migrant crisis. She is the first woman to be named a Chancellor in Germany, as well as leader of the Christian Democratic Union, a position she’s held since 2000. She has been named the most powerful woman in the world a record nine times by Forbes, most recently in May 2015, and is the highest ranking woman on Forbes’ most powerful person list, taking the No. 2 spot in both 2012 and 2015.

Following behind the 61-year-old was Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the head of ISIS, with controversial presidential candidate Trump coming in at No. 3. Black Lives Matter activists were No. 4, Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani No. 5, Uber founder Travis Kalanick No. 6, and Caitlyn came in at No. Merkel led the charge to opening Germany’s doors to thousands of refugees and migrants in the summer of 2015 — a total of 1 million are expected to seek asylum in her country by the end of 2015. During her ten-year term, she’s also had to dealt with the euro crisis in Europe, pushing Greece to reduce its debts to keep Europe a prosperous continent.

Interestingly, it’s been 29 years since a woman has grace the cover of TIME’s POY issue, the last being female Philippines president COrazon Aquino in 1986. But with ten years as German chancellor under her belt and a position as the de facto leader of the powerful European Union, Angela has certainly done a lot to make a difference, making her this year’s rightful title holder

#RHoA: Kenya Moore Opens Up To Bravo About This Season So Far; Plus Will She Win Her Bet With Sheree?
This season Bravotv.com has been doing “mini interviews” with some of The Real Housewives of Atlanta following each week’s episode. These interviews have taken the place of the weekly blogs, and while they do ask some tough questions, I for one am missing the blogs! Kenya was in the hot seat this week, and she got candid on some of this seasons situations so far.

Bravotv.com: Are you on track to win your bet with Sheree?

Kenya Moore: I am on track and was ahead of schedule until my contractor placed the steel beam in my house on the wrong wall in the wrong direction. I have heard of nightmares in construction, but that is certainly gross negligence. My new contractors are working hard to get us back on track.
.
I love that these two have a bet about whose home will be finished first. If the bet was whose home took the longest we know Kenya would win! Kenya and Sheree seem to be in a good place right now on the show, yet we know from some post show interviews by Sheree that this is no longer the case. Both Kenya and Sheree complain of issues with their contractors, have they ever heard of Angie’s List? Clearly, they both needed to do better research when looking for someone to take control of building their new homes. I can’t wait to see both of these houses!

Bravotv.com: Why did you decide to kick Shamea off the boat?

KM: It was clear from my party that she was trying to mock the launch of Kenya Moore Hair Care. If she already drank water from a display only bottle, why would she ask me about it when I arrived? She was trying to embarrass me. She never even said hello or introduced herself. She was so thirsty for negative attention that she tried to bring more drama to the boat, which was a positive occasion (she was invited to neither of these parties). It was clear her only intention was to provoke me or bring negative energy. Commoners can’t summon the queen.
.
Shamea has been a good addition to RHOA; she doesn’t care what these girls think and definitely has a great sense of humor. That being said, I agree with Kenya, she was definitely around to start trouble. I’ve never heard of putting water in a display bottle at a small gathering like that. It makes Kenya seem cheap; if you’re that confident in your product wouldn’t you want the guests to try it out to see if they want to buy it? Maybe that’s why we haven’t heard much about this “hair care line?” Sorry Kenya, as much as Shamea was there to antagonize, you gave her easy material!

Bravotv.com: What was going through your mind when Porsha and Cynthia started to get heated?

KM: I was confused like everyone else as they had no reason to argue. However, when Cynthia stated that she was upset with the way Porsha used the “B word” it could have been quickly diffused with a quick apology. But the word “apologize” is not in Porsha’s dictionary. I’m still waiting on mine.
.
I agree that Porsha should have just said those two simple words “I’m sorry.” She didn’t have to mean it, but anyone could see Cynthia was very upset. An apology would have just ended the situation before things got physical. I think alcohol and silliness led to the kick heard around the world. Now as for Kenya’s apology, did she apologize for getting Porsha all fired up and using those ridiculous props? Didn’t think so.

Up until this season Kenya was definitely not high up on my list of favorite housewives. I’m enjoying her way more this season, and definitely have seen a change in her (so far). When she gives interviews however, I’m turned off by what she has to say. Kenya’s a confident, stubborn woman who can’t admit when she’s wrong. I think Porsha and Kenya are both handling themselves very well when they are filming together, and making sure to not even start attacking each other verbally. Spoilers on the season lead me to believe the old Kenya comes back, we can only hope that’s not true!

What did you think of Kenya’s interview? Thoughts on Shamea? Why do you think Kenya put water in the display bottles? Are you a Kenya fan?

#OOOPS! Daniels Sued Over Non-Payment of Residuals
Lee Daniels’ companies has been sued by SAG-AFTRA, over their alleged failure to pay $335,000 in residuals to performers, along with other payments related to his 2005 film “Shadowboxer”, according to Variety.
The Screen Actors Guild?American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) is an American labor union representing over 160,000 film and television principal and background performers, journalists, and radio personalities worldwide.

The complaint was filed against Shadowboxer LLC and Lee Daniels Entertainment. Variety reports:
"The action alleged that Daniels’ companies had made “Shadowboxer,” a crime thriller starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Helen Mirren, Stephen Dorff and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, pursuant to the terms of the SAG collective bargaining agreement for independent producers but failed to make payments or send the required reports about the distribution of the movie."

"The action also asserted that a 2011 arbitration decision awarded the union more than $335,000 including $169,630 in residuals, $25,323 in pension and health contributions and $93,544 in late payment liquidated damages. The lawsuit is seeking enforcement of the 2011 arbitration decision."
"More than five hours after the reports of the legal action appeared, SAG-AFTRA said in a statement late Tuesday night that the arbitration award had been obtained after several years of trying to resolve a claim related to unpaid residuals on “Shadowboxer.”"

"“California law provides for a four year statute of limitations for the confirmation of arbitration awards,” the union said. “As attempts to enforce the arbitration award were unsuccessful, the union filed this action to reserve all rights to obtain payment. Residuals payments are crucial income for many of SAG-AFTRA’s 160,000+ members and the union vigorously enforces residuals payments for members.”"

"The statement also noted that the union had not taken any action against Daniels as an individual: “SAG-AFTRA respects Mr. Daniels as a producer and director and has not taken any legal action against him individually. This dispute is with the corporate entities responsible for residuals payments on the film.”"
"The union also said that subsequent to the issuance of the award, SAG-AFTRA served a notice of assignment to attach revenue generated by the distribution of the film."

"“While we were able to recover a modest amount of the debt over the last few years, we determined that foreclosure on the film would yield the best result for the cast and therefore sought to confirm the award and move forward with a foreclosure sale at this time,” it said. “We remain ready to resolve this dispute amicably.”"

Daniels directed and was a producer on “Shadowboxer,” which grossed around $500,000 at the box office. His camp has yet to comment.

HIP HOP FEMALE BEEF! Azealia Banks Throws Shade At K. Michelle & Lil Kim
Azealia Banks decides to make fun of Lil Kim & K. Michelle's skin care/color on twitter.
Azealia Banks is back at it once again. Known for not always being able to keeping her mouth shut on twitter, the NYC rapper had some choice words once again on Tuesday evening that were aimed at Lil Kim and her once former touring partner, K. Michelle.

Going at the ladies’ skin care, Azealia decided to make fun of K. Michelle’s yellowish/orangish tint, while calling Lil Kim’s skin off the chain, & her knees, knuckles, and elbows are looking “tight,” which can safely be assumed as sarcastic. She also “praises” the GOAT, Diana Ross, calling her the “bleach queen” and saying she loves her career.

This series of tweets is just latest in Azealia’s long list of beefs & issues this year, including most recently news that she’s being investigated for attacking a security guard as well as going at Nicki Minaj. She's definitely not afraid to voice her opinion, even when not asked.

Check out the tweets below and let us know what you take it as.

Darel ‘Creep’ Evans from ‘Brick City’ Series Shot to Death in Newark
*Darel Evans, a former gang member who was featured in the award-winning Sundance Channel series “Brick City” and the Pivot reality series “Jersey Strong,” was shot to death late Monday night in Newark, NJ, reports TMZ. He was 33.

So far, authorities are investigating the motive and have released no details about the incident. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified, TMZ reports.

Evans, who went by the nickname Creep during his days as a Crip in Newark, had become a youth counselor by the time he was featured in “Brick City,” along with his girlfriend Jayda, a former member of the Bloods.

Executive produced by Forest Whitaker, the series aired on the Sundance Channel in 2009. Evans attended a panel for the series at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour that year. Ironically, Newark’s police chief at the time – also featured in the film and sitting alongside Evans on the panel – was Garry McCarthy, the Chicago police chief fired last week in the wake of LaQuan McDonald’s fatal shooting by an officer.

Evans told TV critics that McCarthy’s presence in the film made him view cops differently.

“When you look at the documentary, you’ll see different aspects but you get a better understanding,” Evans said. “From where we look at it, the police are always doing something. But when you watch the documentary, you see they have a job to do and they have families and this is not as personal as people would think it would be.”

Evans was also asked if he feared reaction to the documentary series among his fellow gang members and in his community, once they see he’s trying to change his ways.

“I believe there’s conflict with everything that’s different. It’s change. You see that we’re human. So humans tend to hate, you know. So I think if you really sit down and try to grasp what’s going on, the change, we’re evolving to something totally different and better,” Evans said. “Once you grasp that, I mean, the conflict shouldn’t be with us, it should be with yourselves.”

Next year, non-New Yorkers can finally see The Broadway SMASH  'Hamilton'!
The hottest ticket on Broadway is hitting the rest of the country in 2016. The Chicago Tribune announced this morning that the musical Hamilton is heading to Chicago next September for an extended run to launch its first national tour.
Opening September 27th, 2016 at the PrivateBank Theatre, formally known as the Bank of America Theatre, the show's move to Chicago echoes the journeys of similar smash hits like Wicked and Book of Mormon. Group tickets will go on sale January 5th, and single tickets soon after.
The Broadway production, which opened in New York this August, is beyond the biggest hit in New York City. The currently Grammy-nominated show is practically sold out through the spring, and tickets are currently on sale through next October.
So if you're one of the many hopefuls unable to get a ticket, take heart; soon you'll get a chance to try to track one down in two separate cities.

Kendrick Lamar Fan Suing For $1 Million Over Failed Meet & Greet
A fan of Kendrick Lamar is suing for $1 million after she missed the opportunity to meet the rapper.
This is one of the stranger lawsuits we've seen in a minute. A fan of Kendrick Lamar, Whitney Larkin, has filed a lawsuit against the rapper after she was banned from the VIP meet & greet. Larkin filed the suit herself-- no lawyer necessary.

As the report goes, Larkin says she e-mailed one of Kendrick's managers, Dave Free, in the hopes of spending some one-on-one time with K. Dot. She asked for three minutes with the rapper, in addition to having already purchased a VIP meet and greet package, worth $350. Larkin claims that Free told her she could get three minutes of Kendrick's time, as long as she compensated Free with a "cash payment of $10,000."
The amount didn't deter her, instead she went digging for more information from Lamar's team members. This was enough to get someone on the team angry, apparently, because the day before the concert she received an e-mail saying she was banned, and her $350 would be refunded.
Larkin doesn't blame Kendrick, going on to call him "one of the greatest rappers alive of all time who is on par with Tupac" in the lawsuit. However she says Free crushed her dreams and now she's left with a "deep sadness." She calls Free an"arrogant, snotty and an all-around bad dude from the rooter to the tooter!"

She's looking for $1 million for all her troubles.

Kerry Washington Shuts Down Divorce Rumors
The internet was taken by storm when rumors that Kerry Washington and her ex-NFL Baller boo, Nnamdi Asomugha, were secretly separated and headed for divorce.
Kerry and Nnamdi wed secretly in 2013. They have a two year old daughter named Isabella. According to reports Nnamdi, who was booted from the 49'ers months after the wedding, never found the urgency to find another job. This supposedly caused an ongoing rift in their relationship and the break up rumors began. A source told InTouch magazine that “Things have gotten so bad, Kerry and Nnamdi are barely talking.” They went on to say that Nnamdi resents Kerry and that they're like two strangers living under the same roof. The source says that after a failed attempt at counseling, Kerry has gotten her lawyers to draw up divorce papers.

Over the weekend Kerry countered the rumors by stepping out with her hubby at the 38th Annual Kennedy Center Honors banquet in Washington, D.C. This is quite unusual for them, considering you rarely see the two together in public. Nnamdi played the background and allowed Kerry to have all of the attention, something he normally does whenever they happen to walk red carpets or attend events together. Sources tell TMZ that the divorce rumors are untrue and that Kerry and Nnamdi "live like a normal couple, and when you're around them or on the phone with them they're clearly into each other." They went on to say that if they do divorce, it would be "the most shocking split in a long time."

That doesn't stop the rumors, however. Some are saying that the divorce announcement will come in 2016. Let's hope for the best!

Erykah Badu Apologizes To Iggy Azalea For Soul Train Awards Shade
Erykah Badu had the internet abuzz with comments she made about Iggy Azalea, while hosting this year’s Soul Train Awards.
In case you missed it, as the show started Erykah pretended to take a call from Iggy, in which she told her that she could come, “Because what you’re doing is definitely not rap.”
Well now, the “Phone Down” singer apologized for her remarks during a Q&A session with her Twitter followers, when one asked “Why you do Iggy like that?”
Erykah replied: “I wanna do this for my daughters: I wanna apologize to Iggy Azalea because she’s one of their favorite artists, and they listen to her all the time. It’s for them.” And she went on to add in some funny comments for Puma and Mars; telling them if they love Iggy so much, “go be with her then.”

THE VIDEO IS HERE

After getting word of Erykah’s video, Iggy followed up letting her know that her apology was accepted, and that she’s reserving a couple of tickets for her daughters for one of shows from her upcoming tour.
