Queen Latifah Channels Bessie Smith in Trailer for HBO Biopic
HBO has released the full trailer for its upcoming Bessie Smith biopic, starring Queen Latifah.
The video transports you to the Jazz Age and shows off Queen Latifah’s vocal chops in her performance as the legendary blues singer.
Directed by Dee Rees, the film focuses on Smith’s turbulent life and transformation from a struggling singer to “the Empress of the Blues,” who became one of the most successful recording artists of the 1920s.

Aside from paving the way for African American singers, she was also an LGBTQ pioneer who was open about her bisexuality both on and offstage.
The film, which also stars Michael Kenneth Williams and Mo’Nique, premieres on May 16.

YESSSSS! 'Furious 7' Opens to $384 Million Worldwide
Furious 7 took the 14-year-old Fast franchise to the next level this weekend with a stunning $143.6 million debut.
That opening ranks ninth all-time behind The Avengers, Iron Man 3, the final Harry Potter, two Dark Knight movies, two Hunger Games and Spider-Man 3.
The movie also opened to an incredible $240 million overseas; that's without any help from China, Japan and Russia, where it will open in the next few weeks. So far, Furious 7 has earned $384 million worldwide, and is very likely on track to earn over $1 billion by the end of its run.
At the domestic box office, Furious 7's $143.6 million debut is 51 percent higher than Captain America: The Winter Soldier's $95 million, which was the previous April record holder. This is also the biggest debut in the franchise thus far, up a whopping 47 percent over Fast & Furious 6. Furious 7 earned $14 million on IMAX screens alone, which ranks second all-time for a 2D-only movie behind The Dark Knight Rises.
Furious 7's phenomenal success can be attributed to a few factors. Coming off Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6, the franchise clearly had a ton of momentum; instead of looking like a step backward, Furious 7 appeared to be the biggest installment yet. Universal also did a nice job pushing the "One Last Ride" tagline, which gave the sense that this may be the last opportunity to see a Fast & Furious movie (which almost certainly isn't the case, but still). It's also likely that the movie got a bump from fans eager to see Paul Walker's final on-screen performance, as he tragically passed away during production in late 2013.
The movie's audience was split evenly between men (51 percent) and women, and skewed a bit older (56 percent over the age of 25). According to Universal's exit polls, Hispanic moviegoers made up a whopping 37 percent of the audience this weekend.
Even if Furious 7 falls off quickly—for example, at the rate of the very front-loaded fourth installment—it's still guaranteed to make over $300 million total. With an "A" CinemaScore, strong reviews and zero competition for the next three weeks, it's likely that this plays a bit better than that; a total around $350 million is very possible.

Serena Williams WINS Miami Open (For The 8th Time!)
It's another dominant win for Serena Williams! The tennis champ cruised her way to her 8th....Yes, 8TH!....Miami Open crown. Once Serena copped the win, she posed it up with her brand new trophy on the court at held at the Crandon Park Tennis Center. She can add it to her collection....this is her 66th WTA career win all together.
Interestingly, she had this to say after her win as she dedicated her new trophy to her father, her former tennis coach: "I would love to dedicate this to my dad. He's not here. I miss him. I hope he's watching. I love you daddy - this one's for you."

HUH? Man Dies During Sex With His Scarecrow
An Argentinian man is no longer with us after having a passionate night of intercourse with his… scarecrow.
The scarecrow was dressed up in lipstick and a wig, with a strapped on sex toy.
via Page Six: Jose Alberto, 58, was found dead in his San Jose de Balcare home, lying next to the straw doll, the Irish Mirror reported.
“There were no signs of violence, and we are working on the assumption that the man died during sex with the scarecrow,” police spokesman Rodolfo Moure told the publication.
The depraved sex fiend, who tended to sheep, had puffed up the scarecrow with clothes and tied a 6-inch strap-on penis to it, reports said.
His rotting remains were found after neighbors complained to police of a foul stench coming from his home, where he lived alone.
Autopsy results have not yet been released.

Woman Runs Over Boyfriend For Trying To Molest Her 12-Year-Old Niece
A woman ran her boyfriend over last weekend after she busted him trying to molest her 12-year-old niece. Also, he’s a convicted sex offender.
Reports NBC News:
Sheriff’s deputies found James Oliver, 48, in a driveway suffering from a serious leg injury while responding to reports of a domestic disturbance at a home in Noblesboro, Maine, on Saturday night. Authorities say Oliver and his girlfriend, Linda Currier, 53, had earlier fought inside the dwelling.
The altercation spilled outside where Currier allegedly hit Oliver, a convicted sex offender, with the car.
Authorities in Lincoln County say they arrested Currier for operating under the influence and aggravated assault. She was booked into Twin Bridges Regional Jail and later released on bail pending a court appearance.
Currier hit Oliver so hard that he was in the hospitalized, before being arrested Monday (March 30). He was charged with unlawful attempted gross sexual assault and touching, and failing to abide by the Sex Offender Registration Act. The pre-teen was not hurt, according to the local sheriff’s office.
Oliver was previously convicted of rape and sexual abuse of a minor.

Jay Z’s ‘TIDAL’ Picks Up 100,000 New Subscribers…In Three Days
The NY Post shares: Sprint and parent SoftBank have bought a minority stake in Jay Z’s subscription music service, The Post has learned.
While the size of the investment couldn’t be learned, sources said the deal values Tidal at around $250 million. Just last month, Jay Z finalized the $56 million acquisition of Aspiro, the Swedish company that owns Tidal. He remains the biggest shareholder, sources said.
Tidal claims to have signed up 100,000 subscribers since Kanye West, Rihanna, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys and even Daft Punk joined Jay Z on stage, according to industry sources.
Unfortunately,the service’s success walks in hand in hand with criticism it continues to receive from those who are unimpressed by what it has to offer. Can’t please them all!

Kelly is currently in the middle of a lawsuit filed by concert promoter Darryl Austin after reportedly getting a $100,000 deposit to headline a show in Dallas, Texas. Austin claims he gave the money to Kelly’s team back in January, but when February rolled around his crew knew nothing of the show in question, allegedly. To add more fuel to the fire, Kelly allegedly returned the deposit to Austin short — $30,000 short. Now Darryl wants him to do the show or give him back the deposit in full.
Diddy Lands Tv Deal For Animated Series 'Brightmoor'
Sean "Diddy" Combs is headed back to the small screen for a new project with FX.
According to Deadline, Diddy is set to executive produce an animated show titled, Brightmoor. The show will focus on inner-city school kids from Brightmoor Elementary in Detroit, Michigan. The animated show is also set to have a South Park-esque tone. The mogul's project will be under his Revolt film company with writing credits from Chip Hall from King Of The Hill and Chris Powell, better known as comedian CP.
Diddy has yet to comment on the new project.
