Shonda Rhimes Calls NY Times “Angry Black Woman” Label An Example Of “Casual Racial Bias” & “Odd Misogyny” In THR Cover Story
“Grey’s Anatomy” & “Scandal” mastermind Shonda Rhimes has landed the cover of The Hollywood Reporter’s newest issue. And she is giving her take on gender and race roles in a supposedly postracial society.
We were appalled after learning about the New York Times article that labeled the ABC hit series creator “an angry black woman”. Online petitions demanding a retraction were started up, “Grey’s Anatomy” star Jesse Williams and “How To Get Away With Murder” star Viola Davis both came to her defense, but the ShondaLand producer had not directly responded to the article (other than tweets about the writer getting her title incorrect)…until now.
In the cover story, Shonda called the NY Times analysis a reminder that although we’re living in the year 2014, there are still traces of "casual racial bias" and "odd misogyny”, specifically aimed at black people AND women. She said,
"In this world in which we all feel we're so full of gender equality and we're a postracial [society] and Obama is president, it's a very good reminder to see the casual racial bias and odd misogyny from a woman written in a paper that we all think of as being so liberal."
Well said. The ABC producer (and single mother of three) also talked about a time she was tapped to appear at an event and the draft announcement called her, "the most powerful black female showrunner in Hollywood." She crossed out "female" and "black" and sent it back. Gender and race “pisses” her off and here’s why,
“They wouldn't say that someone is 'the most powerful white male showrunner in Hollywood. I find race and gender to be terribly important; they're terribly important to who I am. But there's something about the need for everybody else to spend time talking about it … that pisses me off."
Agreed.
She also talked about dealing with fame, as most writers are hardly ever recognized in public. She said,
"I don't know too many other writers who people can recognize their faces … so that was a little disturbing for me and my kids," she says, adding with a mix of humor and horror: "My 12-year-old instinctively says to people: 'No autographs, please. She's with her children.' "

She also talked about how we should change our perception on the things we do have and looking at the glass as being half full rather than half empty. She said,
“If you focus on what you have, you will begin to see that you have more. And if you focus on what you don’t have, you will always live in a space of lack.”

Given his long and successful career in Tinseltown, Robert De Niro is certainly accustomed to high-profile events and star-filled guest lists.
And the “Meet The Parents” star was the guest of honor at the Friars Foundation Gala at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
Among the distinguished guests were actors like Orlando Bloom, Kit Harington and DeNiro’s “Casino” costar Sharon Stone.
Robert was given the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award and Chairman Joseph Zappala declared, “Adding Robert De Niro to the Club’s Icon Award honor roll is a testament to his incredible talents and reveres his place in the highest entertainment echelon.” Congrats DeNiro!

There was plenty of stars at Regal Union Square for the Addicted NYC premiere. And it included the cast of the provocative silver screen adaptation based on the best-selling novel by Zane and many other celebs.
Boris Kodjoe came out to the event with his wife Nicole Ari Parker on his arm.
Lead star Sharon Leal (starring as a successful businesswoman who lives a secret life of infidelity) worked the carpet in a plunging neckline cut-out white gown.
Gorge! Outside of acting, Sharon is making moves on the music scene. She just released new visuals for her track “Giant” off of her new solo EP, LEAL.
Addicted co-star Tyson Beckford made a statement in his red and black blazer and black slacks.
Actress Tasha Smith is also in the erotic thriller. She hit the carpet in a sexy high-slit dress alongside her husband Keith Douglas. Work!
Soon-to-be single Nick Cannon came out to support.
EXTRA correspondent AJ Calloway caught up with Nick at the event where he opened up about removing his “Mariah” tattoo. He said, “It’s not finished yet… It wasn’t supposed to be revealed yet… I didn’t know they were there, that’s how sneaky paparazzi are… I had just gotten it done, it was painful… It hurt a lot and I’m still not finished, I’m still probably like six more sessions away.”
He also dished on how he’s handling his separation from Mariah Carey saying, “I’m just taking everything one day at a time and just being the best person that I can possibly be at the end of the day.”
And he also came to her defense after her recent eyebrow raising performance in Tokyo. He said, “I just wish her nothing but the best, we’re in contact constantly, you know you might have an off night here and there, but she’s one of the greatest performers and entertainers of all time, she’s not worried, we’re not worried, just going to keep pushing.”

NY Times Bestselling Author Zane came out to see her novel turned into film. In some unfortunate news, Zane (real name Kristina Laferne Roberts) recently filed for bankruptcy. It's reported the Maryland native owes the IRS more than $540,000. Ouch.
Phylicia Rashad's daughter/actress Condola Rashad kept it funky on the carpet.
And director Lee Daniels brought his boyfriend Jahil Fisher along to check out the film. Are these your PJs Lee?!

The Addicted cast trekked it to the Jade Hotel for the afterparty. These two look damn good together...no disrespect to either of their significant others Just an observation and we're sure it helps with on-screen chemistry.

TMZ has reported that Paula Patton has filed for divorce from Robin Thicke siting “Irreconcilable Differences”. I’m not really sure what I thought was going to happen here. I surely didn’t think that she was going to take him back while at the same time thought “how could she not?”
You really can’t apologize any more than he did. I just saying this wasn’t no “flowers at your door step” kind of stuff. This was “dedicate an album to you and perform it at an award show while in tears” kind of stuff.
She just wasn’t going to take him back I guess and this was inevitable. It’s sad because we saw some real genuine stuff there and it’s so rare that you see that in hollywood.
And the very least TMZ has reported that it was on good terms and they are both going for split custody of their son Julian so we more than likely won’t have a messy split going on here.
Hopefully this ends up being a super dope come back album for Thicke.
Soulja Boy’s Girlfriend & LHH Hollywood Star Nia Riley & Daughter Involved In Car Accident!
Sad news, guys! Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star Nia Riley was involved in a car accident. Even worse? The reality star’s baby girl was in the car with her!
Reports Wet Paint: Nia’s boyfriend, rapper Soulja Boy took to Instagram on October 8 to relay the news to fans:
“My girlfriend @niariley was in a car accident and the car flipped over and our daughter was in the car. Need your prayers. Life is short and you never know what could happen I love them and don’t know what I would do if something happened to them. God first,” Soulja captioned a picture of Nia’s tattoo of his nickname, “Dre,” on her shoulder.
There’s no word on how the two ladies in Soulja Boy’s life are doing at the moment, but it appears that there’s some good news on the horizon. Just a few hours after his Instagram post, Soulja Boy took to Twitter with the simple tweet, “God is good.”
We’re keeping Nia and her baby girl in our thoughts and sending tons of love and well wishes their way. We’ll be sure to keep you updated once new information emerges.

Mario Lopez Talks Not Being In Love With First Wife Ali Landry
I So dumb, Mario Lopez has released a memoir Just Between Us, with his latest confession surrounding his failed marriage to model Ali Landry back in 2004.
According to US Weekly:
He talks about how it all unraveled:
“It was spring break….everybody was hanging out. That was a situation where I was not mature and man enough,” he elaborated in February 2011 to Stern. “I had no business of being in that position.”
Now, Lopez is bringing up the past once again in his memoir. The actor has admitted that he never was truly in love with Landry during their relationship.
“I had never addressed certain relationships, especially the truth and the handling of what happened in my first marriage,” he wrote in Just Between Us, via Yahoo. “I got inebriated and a little too friendly with a young lady. When it was time to return home, lightning hit me with the truth: I wasn’t in love. But I walked down the aisle [anyway].”
Lopez is currently happily married to his second wife Courtney Mazza, whom he wed in December 2012. The couple are parents to daughter Gia, 4, and son Dominic, nearly 13 months. Find out more confessions from Mario’s memoir.

Amanda Bynes Confirms Engagement: 'I Am Getting Married'
Amanda Bynes has confirmed that she is engaged and will be getting married soon.
“I am getting married and my boyfriend and I are going to be on the cover People magazine,” the 28-year-old former actress tweeted. “Because although they have made up things about me before, they will omit any error they’ve made.”
The tweets came just minutes after she wrote about her plans to sue several tabloids that she says are writing lies. These magazines have published several “exclusive interviews” with her this week, which she claims not to have given.
One of the interviews is where Amanda reportedly first announced that she is engaged to a man named Caleb who is an aspiring actor that she met in rehab.
