The Daily Buzz For March 27

Young Jay Z covers New York Magazine “The Annual Yesteryear Issue ”
NY Mag and several editors came up with a brilliant idea to create “The Encyclopedia of New York Pop Music” 100 years, 100 songs, 100 nights a century of pop music in New York. They cover the past 100 years of New York pop, focusing on key figures and turning point events. Several of our favorites were mentioned in their special issue from the likes of Billie Holiday, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra capturing the sounds of the early and mid 1900′s into the 21st century with the likes of Jay Z, Mary J Blige, Diddy, Wu-Tang, to Nicki Minaj, Romeo Santos, Lady Gaga and The Notorious B.I.G.The young Shawn Carter makes the cover of New York magazine’s “The Annual Yesteryear Issue”

Rick Rubin on Jay Z
Jay-Z asked me to work on a song with him. He was retiring, and he was making what he thought was his last album. He wanted one song from each of his favorite producers and asked if I would do it. That was my first hip-hop song since the early days, and that was “99 Problems.” It was really fun. He was incredibly inspiring as a lyricist. We worked on a lot of ideas, and then he honed in on the track that felt most exciting to him. Actually, Chris Rock had the idea for the chorus. It’s based on an Ice-T song called “99 Problems,” and he said, “Ice-T has this song, and maybe there’s a way to flip it around and do a new version of that.” And I told Jay-Z the idea and he liked it. The Ice-T song is about “got 99 problems and a bitch ain’t one,” and then it’s a list of him talking about his girls and what a great pimp he is. And our idea was to use that same hook concept, and instead of it being about the girls that are not his problem, instead of being a bragging song, it’s more about the problems. Like this is about the other side of that story. —

Porsha Williams Explains Why She Walked Away From Divorce Empty Handed
Self-made and independent is how newly single Porsha Williams would like to be labeled. This is a far cry from what some reality TV fans once thought of the Real Housewives of Atlanta star. As previously reported, Porsha and Kordell Stewart’s divorce was finalized last December.
And just last month, we reported that she allegedly didn’t receive much financial assistance after the split. Reportedly, she walked away with no alimony, home or cash.

Contrary to popular belief, Porsha explains that the reason she didn’t receive anything is because she didn’t want anything from the retired NFL’er. During her appearance on Bethenny, she explains:

"I didn’t ask for anything. Right now in the press it’s, ‘Porsha didn’t get anything, poor Porsha,’ and people are feeling sorry for me because I didn’t get anything and they think that we went to trial and I lost. I didn’t go to trial, I chose not to go to court. So there was no judgement. What happened was…it just tore me apart to go through this divorce, it really did. It was so traumatic and it ruled over my life. I woke up…I’m divorcing, every single day and I wanted the freedom. I wanted to be done with it so before we had court the next week, I woke up, called my attorney, we were scheduled for court, to go to court and me plead my side and he plead his side."
She adds:
"So I told my attorney, ‘Listen, I am done with this. Get the divorce decree, I am coming to sign it.’ I said the only thing I want him to do is pay for my hospital bills because I didn’t have insurance. He didn’t have insurance on me or his son."
Her only request, was for health insurance, which she had accumulated debt on:

"Listen, I had insurance on myself after the divorce, but the debt we had was for insurance. Remember, I wasn’t working. The debt was there still from insurance bills. That’s what I wanted him to pay. That’s it, that’s all I asked him to do and I got my car. Yeah, and he did that. I am good. I have health insurance now. I’m completely independent."

Well Good for her…The Porsha is here….I THINK?

Racism Inside A Brooklyn Lutheran Community
The Rev. Samuel Cruz went into a meeting at his Sunset Park church last month as his bishop’s sole nominee for dean of the southwest Brooklyn conference of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
He would have been the first member of a minority group to represent the area’s eight parishes, most of which date to when the area had a large Norwegian population. The nomination, an aide to the bishop said, recognized Pastor Cruz’s efforts to reinvigorate Trinity Lutheran Church, which in contrast to other parishes in the area was thriving.

By the meeting’s end, Pastor Cruz not only had lost to a last-minute candidate, but he was also repeatedly disparaged by Leonard Bartkus, a layman who days earlier had circulated an email saying Pastor Cruz, a professor at Union Theological Seminary, was a troublemaker who was “not respected or liked” by local Lutheran clergy members.

A dispute later erupted outside the church, and witnesses said they heard Mr. Bartkus hurl two racial slurs and an obscenity at Pastor Cruz, who is Latino.

Both men have filed misdemeanor charges against each other stemming from the confrontation. Mr. Bartkus did not respond to several emails and a voice message.
Pastor Cruz — whose Union Theological colleague Cornel West, the philosopher and political activist, went with him to pick up his legal paperwork — has a court date next month. While he is hopeful the legal matter will be resolved in his favor, he is not as optimistic about the racial tensions that he sees among his fellow clergy members.

“For four years I was never asked to open a conference meeting with a devotional prayer,” he said. “I’ve never been asked to serve on a committee for the conference or the synod. They’ve never asked me how to do work with Latinos. Now, the first time my bishop asks me to do something, I’m attacked.”
Pastor Cruz’s arrival at Trinity had been a homecoming — he had grown up in the area, one of 11 children raised by a factory worker father and homemaker mother.
The church, like the neighborhood, had grown increasingly Latino, and decades earlier, Trinity had started a ministry to attract Latinos. Pastor Cruz was brought in — and accepted by the majority-Latino congregation — to serve as a bridge between old and new.
“Some of the Latinos felt marginalized,” he said. “They felt though they had grown in numbers, they did not have a lot of say in how the church was led.”

Reflecting his academic interests of social justice and Latino and urban Christianity, he refocused the parish on issues like immigrant rights, stop-and-frisk policing, sexual orientation and racism.

Although a small faction routinely opposed him, Pastor Cruz said, he moved forward and the congregation grew. But other clergy members in the conference, he and several members of his congregation said, were often absent when Trinity held events and invited others in the conference.
And while Trinity had found ways to attract more Latino members, a parish in the conference did not seek its advice when it started similar outreach, despite the urging of the Rev. Robert Alan Rimbo, bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod, that clergy members lead by example and collaborate.
“Trinity has been a growing Latino ministry and one of our successes,” said the Rev. Marc Herbst, an assistant to the bishop, who stressed the denomination has bottom-up governance that relies on consensus. “It is a healthy congregation when so many others are struggling.”
Despite feeling isolated from other clergy members, Pastor Cruz went into the conference election willing to accept a new challenge. Instead, he was repeatedly criticized while others watched, said the Rev. Vanessa Cardinale, Trinity’s associate pastor.

“It seemed as though some of the other members from other churches had a plan going into it,” she said. “This guy Lenny did his thing trying to push back the vote, then this other pastor put up David Rommereim as a candidate, like they were waiting for the moment. The vote happened and he was elected.”
The Rev. David H. Rommereim, pastor of Good Shepherd in Bay Ridge, said in an email he had not yet formally accepted being elected dean, a position for which he did not submit his name, and would discuss it with Bishop Rimbo.
But the Rev. Paul H. Knudsen, another Bay Ridge pastor who was part of a group that had reached out to Pastor Rommereim as a candidate “a week or two” before the election, said he was pleased with the outcome.
“I thought the meeting was handled very well,” Pastor Knudsen said. “We had a couple of nominees and we voted.”

Pastor Cruz takes a different view. He said recent events underscore the need for clergy members to confront racial attitudes as neighborhoods — and the people in the pews — change.

“Some people, who want to be good people, don’t see racism,” he said. “I’ve experienced more racism in church than in any other institution. But those who don’t realize it don’t want to change.”

Keyshia Cole POSTS Bikini Pics From Miami, SWEARS OFF Interviews
Keyshia Cole shared new photos from Miami and decided to cut back on interviews after a nasty encounter with V103 Atlanta’s “The Ryan Cameron Morning Show.”
Recently, Keyshia Cole headed to down to Miami to relax and promoted her new singles “Rick James” and “Next Time.”  She tweeted, "My trip to Miami is just about over. Just turnt up on the jet skies."
While out at the club one night, she bumped into Jadakiss.  "I'll tell u what! Kno man/woman has ever been perfect! But I thank GOD, I've made it this far! All u Suckas that wanna act REAL. Fuk U! Respect to my REAL NICCAS holding it down! Jada! Will always have ️ and respect for u! God Bless #believetht"
Although Keyshia had a great weekend, she ran into a few issues this morning. During a call-in to V103 Atlanta’s “The Ryan Cameron Morning Show,” Keyshia was offended by the co-hosts after they began prying into her strained marriage with Daniel “Boobie” Gibson. As things started to get left, she said, “Ya’ll really fu**ing with my shit right now...I got some other shit going on.”

Keyshia really got upset when "Wanda" asked if she put her career before her marriage and if she was really "wifey" material. Keyshia said “Are you trying to insinuate that I was one-dimensional?” The interview DID NOT end well.

She continued,
“Y’all can kiss my ass! With that phony shit. … Y’all should be ashamed of ya selves! Not cool. Never another interview from me!.  I’m done wit interviews for a minute! That interview with V103 left a very bad taste. And to be honest, I don’t deserve that kinda treatment.”
