The Daily Buzz for Nov 19

Mary J. Blige Is Fit & Fierce For “Shape” Magazine
Mary J. Blige flashes her toned abs on the cover of Shape magazine. The 42-year-old singer gets white hot in a bikini, for the mag’s December 2013 issue.
Mary J. recently released the video for “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” from her first-ever Christmas album, titled A Mary Christmas. She sat down with The Source to chat about what made her decide to do a holiday album, when she started working on it and what the process of creating it was like, and also dished on her favorite holiday tradition.

How did your Christmas album come about?

Mary J. Blige:  I did a song with Andrea Bocelli before and David Foster produced that album. I did a song with Rod Stewart and David foster produced that. And a long time ago I did a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas,” and then I did my own Christmas song. So I’ve been wanting to do some Christmas music for a while. So when David asked me did I want to do a full Christmas album with him, I said absolutely. And that’s how that came about.

When did you start working on the Christmas album? What was the process like?

Mary J. Blige: I actually started working on it in March so it was warming up, but there is something about Christmas music that just takes you back to your childhood memories, and just whatever your life is and it was easy to just channel all of that stuff.

Do you have any favorite holiday traditions?

Mary: I mean the only thing if you consider it a tradition is putting up the Christmas tree up every year, and that’s a fun time, I mean everyone’s around whoever you decide you want around and there’s food and there’s music, it’s a project, it’s fun.

When asked if she’d started working on another solo album (besides the Christmas album), she said; “My head is there, but we’re not there yet!”
She’ll soon be hitting the silver screen, along with a star-studded cast in Black Nativity – which lands in theaters on November 27th.

R&B Divas Atlanta cast members returning for the series’ third season will include Syleena Johnson, Angie Stone, Monifah Carter and Keke Wyatt. No Nicci Gilbert?  Or Faith Evans?  We're not shocked.  Womps.

Season Three of "R&B Divas Atlanta" will kick off production later this month.

Jay Z and Barneys "A New York Holiday" Kick Off Party Cancelled
Recently Jay Z issued a second statement that he would proceed with his partnership with Barneys New York for the "A New York Holiday" collection. However, a kick off party that was supposed to go down this Wednesday (November 20) to celebrate its launch has been cancelled.
Reports Racked:
The celebratory event surrounding the launch of Jay Z and Barneys' New York Holiday collaboration has been cancelled. The Wednesday night event was to be held not at the Madison Avenue flagship but at an off-site venue, and was to serve as a fundraiser for the Shawn Carter Foundation. WWD notes that Barneys will issue a statement by the end of the day.
No word yet on what this means for the unveiling of the store's windows, or the pop-up gallery installation planned for the third floor. Earlier today, it was revealed that the retailer and the rapper would up the charitable contribution from 25% of sales to 100% of sales.
As a condition for his continued participation, Jigga said he would take a "leadership role and seat on a council specifically convened to deal with the issue of racial profiling" with Barneys New York.
Cancelling the festivitieswas a prudent move considering since partying while issues of racial profiling circulate would surely have been seen in poor taste and have caused more bad press.

Thanks to Necole Bitchie and her crew who got this exclusive: This past weekend, moviegoers who attended the 7:40pm showing of “The Best Man Holiday” at Rave Cinemas in Baldwin Hills experienced a huge surprise when Morris Chestnut made an appearance at the theater. Immediately after the previews for upcoming releases were done rolling, an announcement was made that the theater was experiencing technical difficulties, and before the anxious crowd had a chance to get upset, Morris appeared in the flesh. He said:

I just wanted to come out and say, thank you everyone that has come out and supported the film. We really put a lot of blood, sweat and tears in this movie, literally. So, I think this movie is going to be something that you guys can all appreciate. I’m pretty sure you are going to like it.
He also asked his fans to Tweet, Facebook and use their social media to let everyone know about the film.
Morris was accompanied by his daughter Paige and wife Pam. The trio almost caused mayhem as they attempted to exit the theater shortly after he made the brief appearance.

The Obamas CHEER ON First Lady Michelle's Brother At Oregon State Game
The Obama family came out to support the First Lady's brother as he coached Oregon State's basketball team.  See the family inside and find out how The Best Man Holiday performed at the box office.
First Lady Michelle Obama rocked her trendy skinny jeans and brought her family to cheer on her brother, Craig Robinson.  He who coaches the Oregon State men's basketball team and the First Fam usually treks it to at least one of his games to show support.
Today, the First Lady will appear on a special 1-hr episode of “106 & Park” to talk about higher education and the President’s “North Star” Goal to return the US to its position as the country with the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020.

President Obama, and daughters Sasha and Malia cheered on the First Lady's brother as he coached the Beavers to a 90-83 victory over Maryland.

Although the President has been battered by both the left and the right (often times unnecessarily) over problems with Healthcare.gov, he and the family were able to enjoy some quality time during the chaos.  And even snapped some funny pics for the kids.
Gotta LUV the Prez!

Cali Rappers Game, Blu, Exile & More Do Their Part For Typhoon Haiyan Victims
Typhoon Haiyan affected the lives of nearly every individual who were aware of it in some capacity. As the death toll approaches 4000, and thousands more struggle without proper shelter, the mental anguish associated with such a tragedy can be pretty unbearable.
Hip-Hop has been known to rise to the occasion on numerous fronts when it comes to being charitable. A disaster of this magnitude doesn't qualify for an exception, either.
Because of its heavy Filipino population, California in particular was devastated by the news. And its native rap citizens are stepping up to the plate.
Game has been devoting a lot of time to his Robin Hood Project and he recently aligned his resources with those of professional poker player, Dan Bilzerian's, AllHipHop reports. Together they were able to raise $10,000 to administer aid to those in need.
Elsewhere, a handful of West Coasters are devoting their stage presence for the hurricane relief. Duos Blu & Exile, TiRon & Ayomari as well as Thurz, NoCando and Anderson Paak are putting together a concert in Los Angeles on November 24. The entry fee is only $5 but donations for access are also approved.

Akon To African Women, They Can’t Be In His Video Unless They Are Lightskinned
The nerve coming from a man is black as midnight, trying to have a preference. Akon and friends will be doing a concert in Ghana with artists WizKid, Sarkodie and more and controversy has sparked, In a recent video shoot for an up and coming Akon and WizKid video, some Ghanaian models and girl were called upon to participate by the directors a few days ahead of the shoot. Presumably prior to Akon and Wiz Kids arrival in Ghana. A model reported on the day of the shoot some girls were turned away as the agent (or the man responsible for calling them) informed them that “they now want half cast girls”. A term used to describe girls with mixed heritage, usually ones with white blood in them. *side-eye* coming from a person who, if standing near a wall will look like a dark alley (shout-out to Aries Spears). Seriously, this fool has SOME NERVE to say this considering his skin tone.

The agent requested if the girls could help him seek light skinned girls because ‘THEY’ were so adamant on this request even on late notice. Because of this girls are bleaching their skin simply because of such discrimination and being made to feel ugly if dark. They were turning away a lot of women, because the majority to show up were brown or chocolate skin and that didn’t sit well for them. WizKid is from Nigera and Akon is from Senegal.  This is pathetic.. This is not 2005 and no one is even checking for Akon’s black ass. I hate to say this, but notice it’s always, ALWAYS THE darkest ones who are on this skin ish. . This does not surprise me one bit. I remember on behind the music, akon said he was picked on for being dark skin. I remember Terrell Owens said he was picked on for being dark skin. Why do black parents teach their kids that having dark skin is bad ?
I swear, 90% of today’s heterosexual black male entertainers are soooooooooo disgusting and trifling. Yet another reason why I despise hip hop. And why are so many black women stupid enough to support these artists, who don’t support them?

I’m starting to think that there’s a clause in the contracts of black male entertainers that goes something like this: By signing this contract, you agree to make millions off of black people, by keeping the black woman in her place through self hate. She must not feel wanted, attractive, or desired by any man on this earth.

Drake Likes Everybody: Spotted On A Date With Zoe Kravitz
Are you truly surprised that Drake decided to swoon after Zoe? Especially after his Twitter thirst back in 2011 where he said: “ Zoe Kravitz on Californication…my two favorite things in the world. But she’s not a thing…she’s everything.”

According to Global Grind, Drake and Zoe were seen  arriving at Gjelina restaurant in Venice with Zoe in toe, They were seated outside on the patio where Zoe drank wine, laughed a lot and was full of smiles. Meanwhile, Drakes bodyguard sat on the inside of the restaurant making sure no photos were taken. When dinner was over, Drake was a gentlemen and waited for Zoe outside of the restroom before they exited the restaurant together. I bet Drake has a notepad full of names of women he wants to “date” and checks them off as he goes down the list. Zoe will turn Drake out, like Erykah turned out Common and and Andre 3000.. I’m here for it…

AND FINALLY FROM “THE CRAZY PEOPLE SHOPPING AT WALMART” FILES
‘X-RAY VISION’
If I could have one super power I think x-ray vision would definitely be my pick or at the very least in the top 3 options. My biggest hesitation is the fact that with my luck, my super powers would be too strong and I would surpass seeing a nice fleshy booty and right into the bones and muscles. Totally defeating the purpose!! Anyway, which see-through do you guys prefer? Also, what would your super power be?

HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL!
