Solange Covers Complex June/July 2013 Issue; Launches Own Record Label
Solange Knowles flaunts her killer legs for Complex magazine. She dropped her latest EP, True, last year – and recently delivered a video for her single ”Locked in Closets,” and also a remix to “Looks Good With Trouble,” featuring Kendrick Lamar.
Solo has been mapping out the plans for her “Lovers in the Parking Lot” video, which she says she’s determined to shoot in the actual parking lot of her childhood hangout, King’s Flea Market in Houston - although others are trying to convince her to shoot it on a set in L.A.
She announced, that as she preps her next album, it will see its release on her own label, Saint Records and distributed through Sony:
Super stoked to announce I’ve started my own label,SAINT RECORDS, where I’ll be releasing my music & other projects distributed through SONY! Through Saint Records I will have 100% creative/artistic control & continue to passionately pursue my footing in this new musical movement.

Meanwhile, inside the issue she talks moving back home to Houston a little while, at the age of 20 and reaching a breaking point with her label, Interscope-Geffen-A&M.

On moving back home to Houston at 20:
At 20, she moved back home after splitting with her husband and “wil’ed out for a little while,” she says, finally breaking free from the confines of her teenage years. “Houston’s hip-hop scene was in the forefront,” Solange recalls. “I remember going to all of these shows: Paul Wall, Bun B, Mike Jones, Slim Thug. I enjoyed the freedom and the newness of experiencing people and a world that I had not had much access to.”
On reaching a breaking point with her label, Interscope-Geffen-A&M:
“I wanted to make all of the creative artistic decisions but I wasn’t the one paying for it. And they didn’t fully trust me to make them,” she says. “Every decision was a battle. It was exhausting. I wanted to be in a position where not only was the music fully my body of work, but everything thereafter was also my body of work. I knew that meant I had to leave and that I had to struggle.” She split with the label and later that year leaked a song called “F–k the Industry (Signed Sincerely).”

Doctors Force Aretha Franklin to Cancel Appearances To Seek Treatment
Aretha Franklin has canceled appearances in Chicago and Connecticut later this month under a doctor’s recommendation. The Associated Press reports that Franklin will need treatment during the time period shows were scheduled with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on May 20 and at Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Connecticut on May 26. Janelle Monae will step in for Franklin for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Corporate Night fundraiser. No word on the type of treatment Franklin will receive.

T.J. Holmes Opens Up About Future Career Plans
Earlier this month BET confirmed the cancellation of their late night news-satire series, Don’t Sleep, resulting in the network ending their relationship with show host, T.J. Holmes. Since his departure from BET, T.J. has become one of the most sought after, seasoned journalists, filling in occasionally on MSNBC. He is currently meeting with various high level executives with expectations of landing a highly-coveted position among one of the major networks soon.
During a recent interview with the Huffington Post, the award-winning journalist opened up on the show’s cancellation and his future career plans.
What happened to your relationship with BET?
The network, they made a decision that they didn’t want the show to come back. That being the case, I don’t have anything else to do at that network. I was only there to do that show for the most part. So if they decide they don’t want the show on the air anymore, then there is no reason for that relationship to continue. So that relationship is over.
Were you shocked by the show’s cancellation?
I have known for a while that the show was not going to return. I just wasn’t able to say that myself and make it official, because the show is still the network’s property. So they’re the ones who are in charge in that regard of public message…And I think a lot of people have known for quite some time. It just took a while to make it publicly official.
What was your reaction to their decision, after you took a risk to bring something new to their audience?
Initially, when they cut it from a nightly show to a weekly show, I was shocked. And that had a lot to do with the timing. We’ve barely been on the air for a month at the time, and you’re still trying to find your footing and figure some things out. So I was shocked by that. But again, they have every right to do whatever it is they want to do with their network. So am I disappointed, yes, but I’m more so disappointed by the fact that we don’t have that [type of show on the air]. It was always my intent, all along, that my heart was in it to step away from where I was to roll the dice and take a chance certainly at a place that is not known for that type of programming…But what drew me was the idea that I could speak night in and night out to the issues affecting my community.
A lot of people will remember from my CNN weekend show, we had a lot of things talking about the black community. And CNN is not the platform to do it constantly, but I got it in as much as I could. I said, “if young brothers like me who have a platform, who have a voice, who have some sort of national credibility don’t do this type of thing, then who else is going to do it?” That is precisely why I did it.
Do you regret leaving your position at CNN?
Oh my God, never. Not a regret at all. I mean, mistakes were made along the way. So I’ll see things and can look back on where a mistake was made, but there’s not a regret that I have in life. You make the best decision you can with the information that’s in front of you and things work out, and sometimes they don’t, but as long as you can learn from it and grow from it you’re going to be alright.
Are you interested in taking the “Don’t Sleep” concept elsewhere?
Throughout the rest of my career I want to make sure that I have some sort of an outlet or platform to speak to those types of issues. There are not a lot of places, frankly on television, that will make the space for that type of show. So doing it again, I don’t know, but I certainly want to have some type of a platform where I’m always able to speak to some of the things I spoke to on that show
Since the last episode of “Don’t Sleep” you’ve filled in on a few occasions on MSNBC. Are you interested in extending that role now that you’re a free agent?
I don’t think there’s any question at this point that I am going to end up back in news. It only became public in recent weeks, but I have known for a while. So I’ve been out there and there are plenty people who are aware. All of the meetings that I’ve been taking at this point have been with networks and having to do with news. The first time that I filled in over at MSNBC, a lot of people noticed it and I got a lot of feedback, but I just missed it. I missed the live news. Just being in that live, daily grind of news. I didn’t realize how much I missed it, because “Don’t Sleep” was a taped show. But when that red light comes on the camera and you’re on the air, it felt great. So I am definitely looking forward to getting back.
Do you have a specific time frame on when you would like to land your next position?
No, because I don’t want to make a mistake. My wife and I are blessed enough that we don’t have to run out and find a job just for the sake of finding a job. But I’m really, really determined to get this next move right. I’m looking for a home. A place that I can see myself being for years and years down the road. So we are being very deliberate. And it’s been nice to have this option and it’s nice to be wanted to some degree.

The filming of the Think Like A Man sequel began yesterday and the film's stars shared a few pics from their first day on set. Star Jerry Ferrara posed with his on-screen partner Gabrielle Union saying, "So glad to be reunited with my onscreen love @gabunion #thinklikemantoo goin strong!"
Meanwhile, Gabby added, "Day 1 antics with @jerrycferrara #moviebeau #ThinkLikeAMan2 #TheCheckCleared"
Gorgeous Gabby, who just wrapped up shooting her BET series "Being Mary Jane" headed over to her trailer and posted some "shady" pics..."Day 1 "Think Like A Man 2"... #trailerlove #shadesfortheshade".
Funnyman Kevin Hart arrived in Las Vegas for the shoot via private jet (of course). He tweeted from the ground, "Just touched down in Vegas....We are filming "Think Like A Man 2" out here!!! #ImFocusedMan #CallMeMrBigScreen #MakingHistory"
And Mr. Hart isn't letting that embarassing DUI slow him down as he's prepared to take over the big screen again with his stand-up film Let Me Explain, which hits movie theaters on July 3rd.
Are Shay & Lil Scrappy Back Together? The Word Is Yes!!!!
It looks like things didn’t work out quite well for Lil’ Scrappy and Erica Dixon. The engagement may even be off. Well, that’s according to recent rumors and an appearance by Scrappy and ex Shay Johnson at Atlanta’s Project 13 event,
I think these two are finally coming out. Recently in Atlanta at the "Project 13, the thirteenth day of change" event, Shay Johnson and Scrappy tried to fool everyone by showing up in separate cars. First, Shay walked down the red carpet, then Erica Dixon. Erica and her entourage avoided Shay at all times, even to the point where journalists, and photographers started talking about her on how she wouldn't interview or take pictures with anyone.
Scrappy was a gentleman and waited for Erica to leave then made his way on to the red carpet to take pictures. At the end of the red carpet was Shay, and from there the two were both all smiles for the rest of the event. At one point, the two took a moment for themselves in the corner for some alone time. Shay took to the mic and said hello to the celebrities and people in the building as well as stated, "Scrappy is around here somewhere also...Love You."
At the end of it all, it seems as if everyone has finally grown up and as for now, Shay and Scrappy looked very happy as "Friends"???

Sheree Responds To NeNe Leakes Calling Her “Evil”, “Mean” And “A Bitch”
Sheree Whitfield recently sat down with Andy Cohen on ‘Watch What Happens Live” and addressed some nasty comments made by her former friend and nemesis NeNe Leakes.
Leakes, who had visited the show not long before, stated that “Sheree out of all the girls is the one person I would never have anything else to do with.. I think she’s very evil. I think she’s very mean and I think she’s a true bitch”.

TEA SIPS! Is Lloyd Going Broke & Have A Drug Problem?
Before we even get started on this rumor, let's make one thing clear. I am not here to tarnish anyone's reputation and this is all hearsay. NOTHING in this email or article is FACT, until proven otherwise. It's also my responsibility to let you guys know that the views and opinions are NOT the views and opinions of the The Chronicles of Efrem So on that note, let's begin with the Tea shall we
R&B singer Lloyd, who used to be down with Murder Inc who is "allegedly" going broke and dealing with a drug problem. Lloyd's had hit songs like "Get It Shawty", "You ft. Lil Wayne" and "Cupid ft. Awesome Jones".
The email says: I am the promoter this article is about.....
"On Saturday, April 20th, Lloyd was scheduled to appear at a concert in San Angelo, TX. He was given $8,000 to perform. On Thursday the 18th, his people called to inform the promoters that Lloyd was stuck in Australia and was unable to return on time. Lloyd's management team assured the promoter that per their contract, the $8,000 would be returned in full once Lloyd returned to the states that Monday. Monday came and no word from Lloyd or his team.
Henry "Noonie" Lee, who has executive production credits with Ciara and Cherish, is currently managing Lloyd. He was the point of contact for all contract negotiations. Henry called the promoter to inform him that he would be getting paid back as per the contract, but that Lloyd did not have the money. Henry says that Lloyd is broke and all of his accounts are frozen. He didn't go into explanation as to why the accounts are frozen, but said that Lloyd owes money for other missed shows and law suits and this is just another on top of it. Henry also mentioned that Lloyd has a bad drug problem and that he "wished it was as simple as just weed".
Since April 20th, only half of the money has been returned. Henry had his sister pay the $4,000 and insists that he will do whatever he can to repay the entire amount because Lloyd just doesn't have it. Everybody on Lloyd's team can't be broke. Something is wrong with that."
This doesn't sound far fetched considering Lloyd's past legal troubles. The R&B singer was sued by his former manager, Joyce Irby, for breach of contract. The two sides reached a settlement which called for Lloyd to fork over $100,000 and required Lloyd to help Irby find a job. That was in 2010. In 2012, Irby sued Lloyd AGAIN for failing to uphold his end of the settlement. Irby claimed Lloyd has only paid $20,000 and failed to find her another job. Sounds a lot like what's going on now. The drug rumors aren't new either, but to come from your managers mouth? Damn, Lloyd! Who knew you had it this rough?
Again, I have no idea if this information is true or not, but whatever the case is, I want to know your thoughts on the matter.
Chris and Adrienne Bosh Are Expecting Baby Number 2
Congratulations are in order for Mr. and Mrs. Bosh, they are expecting baby number two, NBC 6 in Miami announced via twitter.
The news Anchor Roxy for NBC 6 who is also expecting spilled the beans via twitter with a pic of the two ladies holding their stomaches. Awe, that was a creative way of doing it. Congrats to them.
Then she tweeted pics of Jackson and Trinity holding up signs spilling the news. Gotta keep the child support $$$ coming, just in case the marriage don’t last!! I respect your hustle Adrienne!! The couple shared the news with a group of women their Team Tomorrow organization hosted at a luncheon this weekend. Their group teamed up with Chapman, Safespace, Lotus House and underprivileged expectant moms who were pampered, beautified and glorified at the “Today I Can” event.
“I just want to be there to tell them that whatever dreams they have, they can still do them as a mother, whatever hopes and aspirations they have, that’s still a possibility,” Adrienne Bosh said.
The Return of Danity Kane? Are Members Planning A Reunion?
Is former girl group ‘Danity Kane’ planing a reunion? Sure looks like it. Since disbanding in 2009, four of the original five members reunited for a little lunch date at Maggiano’s Restaurant in Los Angeles,
Members, Aubrey O’Day, Dawn Richard, Aundrea Fimbres, and Shannon Bex were all in attendance. The only member not there, Wanita “D.Woods” Woodgette. Wonder what happened to her?
Although Dawm went on to join Diddy and Kaleena in the ‘Dirty Money’ trio before starting a solo career, Aubry O’Day has continued to attain some success on the real television circuit, but we haven’t heard much from the other ladies.
So what have they been up to? TMZ caught up with the ladies to see if a possible reunion was in the works. We wonder what Diddy will think of this? Clearly, he didn’t get an invite since breaking up the group.

Lauren London takes on the role of celebrity guest editor for the latest digital issue of FEARLESS magazine. For the spread, Lauren gets dolled up, and is seen rockin’ her “FEARLESS” top with a bob in one snapshot.
