The Red Carpet Arrivals

Kelly Osbourne NO MA'AM looks likes she’s on her way to MARS!…UGH!
Jodie Foster looks nice in this beautiful gown
Actress Freida Pinto arrives at the Golden Globes in Prada.
Madonna looks nice!
Mission Impossible star and presenter for the night Paula Patton made a bold statement in this extremely bright yellow Monique Lhuillier Spring 2012 strapless gown. The fitted and ruched bodice with mermaid hem works for her body:
Loved the hair, makeup, and minimal jewelry--diamond earrings by Kwiat. Bold color, but she pulled it off nicely. One of the most sophisticated looks we've seen her in lately.

Viola Davis, nominee for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for The Help, showed up in a sexy cranberry one shoulder Emilio Pucci gown which showed off her uber toned arms:
And showed off her gams too. She kept to the rich tones of her look and rocked gold Fred Leighton jewels and a gold box clutch.

Mary J. Blige was nominated for Best Original Song in aMotion Picture for her track, "The Living Proof," she wrote and performed for The Help.
But I wish she GET RID of those damn tatoos! And she rocked her usual earth tone glittering and fitted halter style dress by Michael Kors. The feathers on the bottom of the dress are a bit different than the norm for her, but it just feels like we always see her in a dress such as this.

TV Correspondent Shaun Robinson departed from her usual pageant-girl look and did a more simple black jersey material dress with a one-sleeved flowing white bodice.

And actress Octavia Spencer also won one of the top awards tonight: Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture award for "The Help." She was shocked by the win, but pulled it together enough during her acceptance speech to thank everyone, including Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday we observe tomorrow. She commented Martin Luther King Jr said it best "All Labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance"

She rocked a lavender chiffon cap sleeved Tadashi Shoji gown with crystal embellishments gathering the middle of the bodice. And had matching lavender Christian Louboutin pumps to match. Very pretty color for her. But I wish she smiled more.

BEST AND WORST!
The Golden Globes red carpet gave us women in bold colors — teals, green and, in Angelina Jolie’s case, flashes of crimson-red set against satiny white. Fancy head bands? Check — you could find them on Michelle Williams and Charlize Theron. Hair worn loose and tousled? Please report to Kristen Wiig, Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Lange, among others.

Of course amidst all that couture and designer name-dropping, only a select few can emerge as the best and worst dressed stars of the night. And here they are.
Best Dressed
10. Reese Witherspoon

Red. Zac Posen. Va-va-voomy.

9. Emma Stone
It wasn’t green. But the color worked.

8. Evan Rachel Wood
In a sequined Gucci dress with real feathers on the bottom of the skirt, she looked like a cross between a mermaid and a bird ... in a good way.

7. Berenice Bejo
The red carpet newbie from “The Artist” made her mark with a striking blue gown from Emilio Pucci.

6. Claire Danes: Fab dress and the low cut in the back made it an ABSOLUTE WINNER!

5. Laura Dern
The Golden Globe winner for “Enlightened” looked flawlessly sparkly in green.

4. Viola Davis
I’d say Viola Davis needed no “Help” in the fashion department. But that would be cheesy. So I’ll just say she looked great.

3. Kate Beckinsale
I’m normally not a fan of flesh tones. But Beckinsale made me a convert.

2. Angelina Jolie
The Atelier Versace dress could not have fit her better, and the red splash across the top made it stand out from other white and off-white gowns on the carpet. Pure elegance.

1. Sofia Vergara
Perfect fit, perfect color, just perfect. Sure, she couldn’t walk very easily in it. But being best dressed sometimes means sacrificing mobility.

Worst Dressed
6. Amy Poehler
Love Leslie Knope enough to know she could have looked so much better at the Golden Globes. (Related question: What is Will Arnett up to in this photo?)

5. Amanda Peet
If you’ve been wondering where your grandmother’s drapes went, well...

4. Callie Thorne
The Golden Globe nominee received no favors from this dress.

3. Michelle Williams
The headband was cute. The dress, sadly, was dowdy.

2. Sarah Michelle Gellar
She told E!’s Giuliana Rancic that her daughter chose this tie-dyed gown. That explains it.

1. Piper Perabo
The mysteries of the universe may well be hidden under that skirt. Lord knows there’s plenty of room.

THE WINNERS!
Despite an off-color remark or two from host Ricky Gervais, Sunday's 69th annual Golden Globe Awards proved to be something unexpected – family friendly.

Idris Elba won one of the top honors--the 2012 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television award for "Luther." The British actor thanked his daughter, Isan, who he said was having a Golden Globes party at home. Sweet!
More pics of Idris posing with his award in the press room and photoshoot room:

And actress Octavia Spencer also won one of the top awards tonight: Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture award for "The Help." She was shocked by the win, but pulled it together enough during her acceptance speech to thank everyone, including Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday we observe tomorrow.
She commented, "Martin Luther King Jr. said it best: All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance!"
Named best actress for the TV drama Homeland, Claire Danes said that when she won her first Globe, for 1994's My So-Called Life, she was only 15 – and was so overwhelmed that she forgot to thank her parents.
She made up for that oversight on Sunday, and pointed out her mother, Carla, sitting in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Danes also thanked her husband, Hugh Dancy, "who keeps me sane and happy."

Throughout the evening, many winners took time to thank members of their families. The Artist's best comedy actor, Jean Dujardin, thanked "my beautiful and talented wife." (The movie was also named best picture comedy or musical.)
Kate Winslet and Michelle Williams both acknowledged their children, and Game of Thrones supporting actor winner Peter Dinklage gave a shout out to his new daughter, "who has her first babysitter tonight," he said.

Not that everyone got in a plug for the folks or kids. Best dramatic actress Meryl Streep, who played former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, threw a kiss to fellow nominee Viola Davis of The Help. "I love you, Viola," said Streep. "You're my girl."
George Clooney, picking up his best dramatic actor award for best dramatic picture winner The Descendants, thanked fellow nominee Brad Pitt for his humanitarian work, and nominee Michael Fassbender "for taking over the frontal nudity responsibility that I had." Clooney also wisecracked that the Shame star could play golf "with your hands behind your back."
A Surprised Madonna
The most stunned winner of the evening seemed to be Madonna for writing the best song, "Masterpiece," from W.E., her biopic about the Duchess of Windsor. That is, until Octavia Spencer won her supporting actress Globe for The Help, insisting, "This is seriously nuts."
Among the major TV honors, Globes went to supporting actress Jessica Lange, for American Horror Story, and to the mini-series Downton Abbey, the drama series Homeland and the comedy series Modern Family.

Actor Morgan Freeman received the distinguished Cecil B. DeMille award. And as he thanked the iconic Sidney Poitier, who also received this award, for presenting him with the accomplishment, Morgan said he would rename the award in his house to the Sidney Poitier award. Nice!
