Are Ya’ll ready for the Best Man #2?…I Am!
A sequel for 1999 film favorite The Best Man is in the
works...
Back in January at a reunion dinner for the cast of The Best
Man, writer director Malcolm D. Lee said,
… It’s hard to believe we all haven’t been in the same space for over 12 years, but it was like we’ve seen each other everyday. It was a joy to reunite with the “Black Pack”, one of the best casts ever assembled in my view. Judging from the laughs, conversation and smiles we’d all love to find a way to collaborate again. God willing it’ll happen.”

And it has. Universal has given Spike Lee's cousin Malcolm the
green light he's busy writing the sequel to The Best Man as we speak. Expect
most of the original cast.
FINALLY A WIN FOR MY BIRDS!
EAGLES 20 REDSKINS 13
LANDOVER, Md. - The Eagles didn't have to play a perfect game to get a win against the Washington Grossmans on Sunday. They just had to avoid another stupid, sloppy performance like the ones that cost them four straight losses and put this season of great expectation in great jeopardy.
In fact, they were a long way from perfect against the Redskins, far from a completed project, and that's not even counting the possibility we ever have to see Vince Young on a football field again.
The 20-13 win should have been a lot easier than it was, ending as it did with Andy Reid pleading for a better spot of the ball with 2 minutes to play. This should have been at least a two-touchdown win and maybe later in the season it will be.
"Nothing's ever perfect, but you could see the fight in everybody," said defensive end Jason Babin. "We needed a forklift to take that monkey off our back, but we were able to do it. The theme was that we got here by being good football players and making plays. So just go out and play the way we're capable."
They didn't quite reach that level, but the Eagles were able to avoid freighting so much weight onto this game that they would be unable to lift it. For a team facing NFL oblivion - no 1-5 team has made the playoffs in the current format - they were able to play loose and not trip themselves on their own mistakes.
For that, and for the final score, a lot of credit has to go to former Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman. Technically, Washington coach Mike Shanahan hasn't benched Grossman forever, but you have to believe it crossed his mind. Grossman threw four intereceptions, including one on the first Redskins drive of the game. The Eagles grabbed that pass, grabbed the momentum and took a 7-0 lead on the ensuing drive.
That scored was aided by a couple of avoidable penalties by Washington - a roughness call on the interception and another for hitting Michael Vick late - and suddenly the Redskins were trying to play uphill. It's amazing how easy the NFL is when the other team has the dopes and the other quarterback is the one throwing four interceptions.
"We've been making mistakes in the wrong situations and we didn't do that today," said tight end Brent Celek. "There are a lot of things we can get better at. I'm not overly happy with how we played today, but we got the win and there's plenty of room for improvement."
There's a lot to improve, if only because they've got 10 games left to play, but potentially only one with Rex Grossman as the opposing quarterback.
Still, this was a step back from the brink and the Eagles get to enjoy it for two whole weeks. After a month-long stretch in which the criticism of the team in general and Reid in particular built to a crescendo, they can tell themselves everything will be all right. Since they operate in the lackluster NFC East division, it might even be true.
"I still think we can win this division. I don't think it's out of reach by any stretch of the imagination," center Jason Kelce said. "In the last four games, things went the other team's way. Balls were batted into someone else's hands, stuff like that. Today, we started getting a little luck going back to our side."
Luck is fine, and they did get some bounces, but the offense hit a second-half trough against Washington and the defense allowed itself to get burned for a late touchdown engineered by backup quarterback John Beck.
The last touchdown of the day for the Eagles came with 14 minutes, 15 seconds left in the second quarter. They could only get field goals out of a first and goal at the 9-yard line and a first and goal at the 5-yard line before the half. In the second half, Vick had a tipped pass that turned into an interception with the Eagles driving at the Washington 16-yard line.
Fortunately for the Eagles, the Redskins had Grossman in charge of capitalizing on those opportunities, which didn't turn out so well for them. When Vick left the game briefly in the third quarter after getting dirt in his eyes, the Eagles handed another gift to the Redskins, putting backup Young on the field for two ugly snaps. Young unsuccessfully tried to scramble away from a perfectly serviceable pocket on the first and then threw a terrible interception on the second.
Given the ball at the Eagles 18-yard line, however, Grossman quickly threw the third of his four interceptions to snuff out that chance and end the best Washington hope until Beck was able to connect during too-little, too-late time.
The win wasn't always pretty, particularly after halftime, but it was pretty vital for the Eagles. They are still walking a narrow line and could fall off again with a loss to Dallas after the bye. For this one day, though, they didn't have to be told their season was over.
"We've been hearing that all week and I wasn't worried. We love our coach to death and we'll got to bat for him each and every week," Vick said. "We could be 1-13 and everything he tells us, we're going to go out and do it."
Thankfully, that theory wasn't tested. All it took to break the skid was fewer mistakes and more Rex Grossman across the line of scrimmage. It's a time-tested formula in the NFL and - guess what? - it even worked for the Eagles.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY REV JOSEPH LOWERY….CIVIL RIGHTS ICON LEADER IS
90
The Rev. Joseph Lowery was one of the first believers that a
black senator from Illinois could become president, and Barack Obama was among
those adding his thanks to the civil rights icon Sunday night during a tribute
to the 90-year-old's legacy.
Lowery, whose birthday was Thursday, was praised for his continued fight against hunger, poverty, racism and injustice. He has lived to see an end to segregation and the rise of the nation's first black president, and says there is still work for him to do on issues of social justice and equality.
In a brief video tribute for the hundreds in attendance, Obama thanked Lowery for his friendship and counsel.

In a brief video tribute for the hundreds in attendance, Obama thanked Lowery for his friendship and counsel.
"I don't know where I'd be without your support and advice," Obama said. "I don't know where this country would be without your leadership."
Obama awarded Lowery, who turned 90 on Thursday, the
Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2010. Lowery was an early and staunch supporter
of the president during his historic 2008 campaign for the White House and gave
the benediction at Obama's inauguration.
Lowery told the audience that he believed America would "come home to herself" before 2012 and re-elect Obama.

"America's going to realize that for
the good of the union, for the good of the nation, she needs to tear away from
those who would lead us to self-destruct," Lowery said,
adding, "The tea party ain't my cup of
tea."
Obama's video was introduced at the Atlanta Symphony Hall
by his special adviser, Valerie Jarrett, who spent time with Lowery on the
campaign trail three years ago.
"In those early says, Rev. Lowery had the audacity and the optimism to believe that a skinny guy with a funny name could be the president of the United States," Jarrett said. "He didn't just believe it, but he put his heart and his soul and his elbow grease into making sure that it happened."

Attorney General Eric Holder
said Lowery preached compassion and inspired courage.
"Dr. Lowery's words have called forth and brought out the best in generations of Americans," Holder said.
Holder, who is also the country's first African-American to hold his position, told Lowery he was rededicating the Department of Justice's commitment to civil rights work.

The lieutenant of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. has a
portrait in his home that bears the words, "I was kept
alive to be a witness."Indeed, Lowery has outlived King and many
other civil rights-era contemporaries. Earlier this week, Lowery mourned the
death of his friend and comrade, the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, who died at age
89.
Members of the King family were on hand to celebrate the man they know as "Uncle Joe." Also there were several of his comrades in the civil rights movement. Ambassador Andrew Young said Lowery "never left the scene" after King was assassinated in 1968, leaving the future of the civil rights movement uncertain.
"When Martin passed on and went to
glory, many people slipped," Young said. "But there were still struggles to be
wages when there was no press around."
Congressman John Lewis said Lowery remained and helped liberate a people and a nation.

"I want to thank you for your leadership, for your vision, for your courage, for your inspiration," Lewis said. "Joe, my brother ... I love you."
Sunday's event was the climax of tributes to Lowery. Last
month, Delta Air Lines put his name on the side of one of its jets in his
honor.
Lowery took the stage at the end of the celebration. With his wife at his side, he thanked the crowd for the outpouring of support.
"If I had known it was this
much fun, I'd have been 90 long before now," Lowery
quipped.

WTF?!?: So white it's wrong: Skin bleaching products unveiled FOR MEN By Lauren Paxman
Awaiting trial on a charge of conspiracy to murder is not
generally a good time to launch a new beauty product.
But when the products in question are skin-whiteners, you're probably used to the negative publicity.

Jamaican dancehall artist Vybz Kartel is launching his own range of men's cosmetics this month, which includes a variety of 'skin-brightening' items.

He has also been charged in connection with the murder of a promoter in Kingston in July - as well as for illegal possession of a firearm and some drugs-related offences.
The musician, who was nominated in the reggae artist of the
year category at last year's MOBOs, has been an advocate of lightening your skin
for a while now.
He originally claimed to use cake soap - a clothes-bleaching product - to lighten his skin, so that it was easier to see his tattoos.

Olivia Palermo launches fashion blog... but with an
editor-at-large and 15 staff members, how much work is she actually doing?
But after the Jamaican manufacturer of the product, Blue Power
Group, refuted his claims, Kartel explained that he actually used his own
special concoction.
Soon his secret recipe will be available to buy.

Skin whitening has become so commonplace among women, that
even big cosmetics firms like L'Oreal have been accused of making its models
look paler - as is suggested to be the case with this Freida Pinto advert (left)
But now men being encouraged to bleach their skin
too.
Pale skin is seen by bleaching advocates as desirable as it is
thought to imply wealth. Poorer people who work in the sunshine in hot countries
on the fields get darker skin - which they might then choose to try and
bleach.
As historian Elsa Goveia puts it, the structuring principle of Caribbean societies is 'the belief that the blacker you are the more inferior you are and the whiter you are the more superior you are.'
Clearly, this has very negative connotations on issues of race, and self confidence.

In defence of his controversial beauty regime, Vybz Kartel has
explained that he sees lightening your skin as no different to straightening
your hair or getting a tan.
In a statement to Vibe.com, the artist defended his use of cake soap, he said: 'When black women stop straightening their hair and wearing wigs and weaves, when white women stop getting lip and butt injections and implants … then I'll stop using the 'cake soap' and we'll all live naturally ever after.'

Jamaican health authorities see the matter a little
differently.
Local doctors are dealing with increasing numbers of patients who have burnt their skin with black-market bleaching products.
Local doctors are dealing with increasing numbers of patients who have burnt their skin with black-market bleaching products.
The craze is so serious that in 2007 the Jamaican government ran a campaign called 'Don't Kill The Skin' to highlight the dangers of using the products.
Keysha Davis, editor of Blackhair magazine, thinks it is especially worrying that skin-lightening products are being endorsed by influential celebrities.
She told The Guardian: 'I think historically it has been black women who've had self-identity issues and so might use those products rather than black men.
'To hear that Vybz Kartel is putting out a skin lightening cream is quite disturbing, I feel, and quite sad.'
His products are launching in the Caribbean initially, but Vybz Kartel has high hopes for the moisturisers, fragrances and soaps. He told the Tribune: 'I wanna see them in Macy's and all other fine retailers worldwide.'
The musician's endorsements have not always gone to plan in
the past, though. His brand of Daggering condoms had a reputation for splitting,
and his Street Vybz Rum was deemed too expensive.
The DJ clearly has bigger worries than whether this range of cosmetics will sell or not, though. He has been charged in connection with the July murder of Barrington 'Bossie' Burton, a 27-year-old promoter in Kingston, Jamaica.
Beyonce covers Harper’s Bazaar: “Marriage takes hard work & sacrifice”
Beyonce covers the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar, with a Terry
Richardson photo shoot and an epic interview. Damn, Beyonce can talk your ear
off. The interview is so long, Bazaar had to split it up into two different
parts, which you can read here and here. I’m going to try to do some of the
highlights without going overboard. First, a word about the Terry Richardson
shoot - it was done in the summer, before Bey started “showing” (or before she
got used to wearing a fake baby bump for attention). So that’s why there’s no
bump in these photos. Okay, onto the highlights from the interview:
On revealing her bump at the VMAs: “I
put a lot of thought into how I wanted to unveil it. It was important to me that
I was able to do it myself… I was extremely nervous. It was the toughest red
carpet I ever did. I didn’t want a crazy picture or gossip story to break the
news… so I decided to say nothing and proudly show my baby bump. I felt it was
more powerful to see the love and enthusiasm as opposed to saying
anything.”
She’s working on a House of Dereon maternity line: “All I see now are clothes that are flattering on a pregnant
woman… It’s been so exciting for me! I love figuring out designs that still make
me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant. Flowy fabrics are always flattering… but I
still rock my stilettos.”
Bey’s fashion inspirations: “I love
Kate Moss. I think she has great style. And I always admire Victoria Beckham and
Gisele [Bündchen]. Their style is modern but always classic.” Her longtime
stylist Ty Hunter helps her put together ensembles even for her days off, and
she and her team are considering hiring hot street-style photographer Tommy Ton
to shoot behind the scenes. She’s also an online shopping junkie. “I spend too
much money shopping on the Internet!” she moans.
Gwyneth speaks about their friendship: She and close friend Gwyneth Paltrow could probably talk fashion
all day, but “our best times have been when we are just sitting around in
sweatpants, having a glass of wine, chatting about life,” Paltrow says. “B is
wise beyond her years. She has taught me the value of speaking your mind. She is
clear and honest and true to herself while being respectful. She will be an
incredible mother because she is so full of love and she knows who she is.”
Beyoncé has already had plenty of practice with Paltrow’s children, Moses and
Apple, and Solange’s son, Daniel Julez. “With my kids she is easy and fun,”
Paltrow says. “They know that she is interested in them, and they can tell when
a grown-up is faking.”
The timing of her pregnancy was thought out: “It was important to me that I gave myself time to focus on
becoming the woman I want to be, building my empire, my relationship, and my
self-worth, before I became a mother. Now God has blessed us with the ultimate.”
On Jay-Z: She and Jay-Z are a deeply committed and extremely
private couple, just as happy grabbing pizza in Brooklyn as they are yachting
around the Mediterranean. “We have been together since I
was 20 years old,” she says. “We took our time and developed an unbreakable
friendship before we got married. I admire his ability to inspire others. To me,
Jay represents the American dream. Jay’s music has helped define our generation.
All that he has overcome and worked to achieve gives millions hope that they can
become whatever they want to be. I respect him so much; he is a great man and a
great artist.”
In a rare moment of candor about their
relationship, she continues: “We focused three years on
our marriage and found that it brought us an even stronger bond and connection.
But like anything great and successful in your life, marriage takes hard work
and sacrifice. It has to be something both you and your husband deeply want. The
best thing about marriage is the amount of growth you have because you can no
longer hide from your fears and insecurities. There’s someone right there
calling you out on your flaws and building you up when you need the support. If
you are with the right person, it brings out the best version of
you.”
She doesn’t care what people think: “I
am finally at the stage in my life where I am not so concerned with other
people’s opinions about my life decisions. It is so liberating to really know
what I want, what truly makes me happy, what I will not tolerate. I have learned
that it is no one else’s job to take care of me but me.”
Bey on art: “My mother has been an art
collector and always taught me the value of art. She has encouraged me to invest
in art since I can remember. The first artist I was truly inspired by was
Vincent van Gogh. I was 17 and began doing my own paintings. I used to copy his
style. When I was 20 I visited the Sistine chapel and saw Michelangelo’s work
and it was one of the most spectacular experiences of my life. I then went on a
tour around Europe and visited all the places Picasso and Matisse hung out. I
then visited Art Basel and was exposed to all kind of contemporary artists. It
got me into art that’s more abstract. Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring are
two of my favorites but I appreciate so many contemporary artists. Art inspires
me in so many ways. I use art as reference when I’m looking for inspiration for
my performances, wardrobe or a video I might be working on. My husband and I
collect all types of art from Basquiat and Warhol to Marilyn
Minter.”
On FLOTUS: “She is an amazing person,
inside and out. She inspires me to want to do more, to want to know more about
the world and work harder to make a difference.”
[From Harper’s Bazaar - two stories]
“I was 17 and began doing my own paintings. I used to copy his
style.” And she’s still copying artists and passing the stuff off as her own.
But Jesus Christ, even amongst Beyonce’s must insufferable comments (the
soliloquy about marriage, for instance), Gwyneth Paltrow is still WORSE. Notice
Bey doesn’t say anything about Gwyneth - and she doesn’t even name Gwyneth as
one of her style inspirations! HAHAHA. But Gwyneth is going to force this
friendship to the bitter end: “B is wise beyond her years. She has taught me the
value of speaking your mind. She is clear and honest and true to herself while
being respectful. She will be an incredible mother because she is so full of
love and she knows who she is.” STFU, Goop.
Tony Homo I meant Romo Sacked Rival Player's Wife
Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo is getting little sympathy for his
crappy game play lately especially not from Washington Redskin Chris
Cooley.
Tony Romo has had one of those weeks…The Dallas Cowboys QB
single-handedly blew a huge lead last week against the Detroits Lions, leading
to the usual boo-birds and heavy criticism, but none more scathing than Chris
Cooley’s comments…The Redskins tight end told a D.C. radio show that he
thoroughly enjoyed watching Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo “choke” in the
Cowboys last game…The Cowboys led by 24 points in the second half, at home, yet
managed to lose the game.
Romo had two second-half interceptions that were
returned for touchdowns by Detroit. Cooley also said he would like to fight Romo
in a cage, MMA style…Now I understand why Cooley made those comments…Here’s the
scoop from a reliable source, “I have caught wind from a source that the reason
for Chris Cooley’s animosity towards Romo was due to a fling (sex) Romo had with
Cooley’s hot wife over 2 years ago. I’m sure this story will hit the wires in
the next day or so but you heard it here first! (unless someone already spilled
the beans to you)” Now Cooley’s comments make much more sense in context…Romo
was single two years ago and Cooley’s wife is incredibly hot…This could very
well be just a rumor, or someone possibly trying to plant a story, but a story I
kind of find myself believing.

Common Covers Rolling Out Magazine + Discusses His Mother
Rapper turned actor and now best-selling author Common covers
this month issue of Rolling Out Magazine. He discusses his new memoir
titled,”One Day It’ll All Make Sense”. Common also speaks on how his mother,
who’s an educator (Dr. Mahalia Ann Hines), and how she never really approved his
decision to rap…
“I think, at a certain point, my focus was not about changing
her mind it was this is my dream, this is what I dreamed of for me, so I have
to pursue that dream and live that dream. I love my mother, I respect her, but
this is my dream so I have to go for it. I think I was able to change her mind
organically. My intention wasn’t ”I gotta do this thing to make my mother love
it” even though I’m not going to act like I didn’t want to make my mother
proud, but I think I was able to change her mind by putting her on my record
cover, and then one day, it’ll all make sense, right?”
Common’s new album, The Dreamer, The Believer will be released
Nov. 22, and you can catch him on the new AMC Western series Hell on Wheels,
which premieres Nov. 6.
Angelina Jolie's Goodwill Visit to Libya
She spends countless hours trying to help those in the most
desperate need, and Angelina Jolie was busy paying a visit to Misrata, Libya
last week.
The U.N. Goodwill Ambassador was photographed meeting patients
at a local hospital while in the country to help agencies bringing aid to
Libyans in Tripoli and Misrata.
Of the effort, Jolie told press, “I
have come to Libya for a variety of reasons, to see a country in transition at
every level and to witness efforts to fully realize the promise of the Arab
Spring."
“The country faces a host of challenges, including internally
displaced people, refugees, rule of law, security, sanitation, education, health
and other humanitarian needs. All of these pieces must be delivered and
coordinated properly in an environment of reconciliation and justice,” she
added.
The 36-year-old finished by saying, “I will be meeting with
officials from all sides but above all, listening to the local people in the
street. I am here to express solidarity with them. It is the work of rebuilding
and recovery that will determine Libya’s future."
Robin Thicke & Paula Patton Take Baby Julian Out For Some Pumpkin Patch Fun
Robin Thicke and his wife Paula Patton were spotted having
some family fun with their son Julian...just in time for Halloween
Robin Thicke and Paula Patton took their one-year-old baby
Julian to Mr Bones Pumpkin Patch in West Hollywood. It's about that time to
gather up pumpkins for the fall and Halloween season...
Robin rode down the slide with Julian in his
arms.
Then Paula joined him to cheer their kiddie on as he rode the
pony.
Throw in a ride through the pumpkin patch and it was enough to
make baby Julian sleepy.
Love seeing a cute family out having a good time.
And finally from “THE CRAZY PEOPLE SHOPPING AT WALMART” FILES
