THIS????? Toure Calls Tyler Perry ‘Malt Liquor for the Masses’
*In an exchange on CNN regarding Tyler Perry’s new status as Hollywood’s highest paid man in entertainment, social commentator Touré went in on the actor/writer/producer/director/entrepreneur – calling his work

“malt liquor for the masses.”

One of the main debates has been whether or not Perry’s work, produced for and consumed mainly by black audiences, is actually destructive for the African American community, notes Mediate.com. Spike Lee famously called his broad comedy and melodrama “coonery and buffoonery” and, now that Perry has reached the very top of Forbes‘ annual list, social commentator Touré was invited to offer his take.

Touré began by knocking Perry’s actual talents as a filmmaker. Comparing his films to “cinematic malt liquor,” he said they taught black women to embrace feelings of “victimhood.” However, they were popular just because no one else is talking to those women.

“Tyler Perry is definitely serving an audience that is underserved by Hollywood. Especially black southern women do not see themselves at all in Hollywood fare. So, when he’s serving them movies where they appear to be in situations that are naturalistic and recognizable to them and definitely have that Christian message, I absolutely understand why my grandmother, my mother, and my aunts love this stuff, and my family down south, they love this stuff. I just can’t watch it without cringing because I’ve seen good movies and I know these are poorly made films.”
Defending Perry was Dr. Boyce Watkins who pointed out that, while he wasn’t thrilled about a black man becoming successful for wearing a dress, you can’t argue that Perry has done something that Hollywood hasn’t done for years; give black entertainers jobs. Touré countered that drug dealers create jobs too but it doesn’t make them “good jobs.”

DUDE HAS NERVE! What is doing to help Blacks in the industry? CRABS IN THE BARREL MENTALITY! SMH!

He’s at it AGAIN! Jermaine's book About Michael Full of Lies?
Jermaine Jackson is promoting his book about Michael Jackson called 'You are Not Alone' but one critic says the book is full of lies...
From Showbiz 411
There’s not much fact in Jermaine Jackson‘s newest attempt to cash in on his late brother Michael. His book, “You Are Not Alone,” reads like a compendium of fictions and half-truths to anyone who’s reported anything about Michael Jackson over the last 20 years. It’s so far from reality that Jermaine defends his father while citing his abuse; still argues that Michael’s kids are his biologically; and basically excises the people closest to Michael like his personal assistant Evvy Tavasci and surrogate family, the Cascios.
This is largely because Michael didn’t have much to do with Jermaine after his 1991 recording, called “Word to the Badd.” Jermaine was jettisoned from Michael’s life.
And yet, the older brother would continue to try and get back into Michael’s inner circle, playing on his vulnerabilities.
Otherwise., “You Are Not Alone” is quite a fanciful read. Jermaine basically absolves his father of all wrong doing, and says Michael misunderstood his “abuse.” It was just Joseph trying to keep the kids away from gangs. So he beat them. Jermaine dismisses all press reports of Joseph’s violence. But I can tell you that between Joseph’s own admissions and those of past employees–even Katherine Jackson on “Oprah”– none of what Jermaine says is true. This is sad.
Jermaine is wrong about so many things–about Michael’s manager Frank Dileo, and about how the “This Is It” concerts were originally conceived. He says that Michael’s manager in 2008, the non doctor Tohme Tohme, came up with the idea. In fact, it was Randy Phillips of AEG Live, in 2007, who first told me he’d approached Michael to play a series of dates at London’s O2 Arena. And it was not AEG that brought in Dileo and John Branca during the 2009 rehearsals. Michael happily brought Frank Dileo back, and Dileo brought back Branca. If anyone was unhappy, it was Jermaine–he was cut out again.
What Jermaine does reveal: that he and his wife Halima (there’s no mention of Jermaine’s second wife, Alejandra, mother of two of his children, and mother of two children with brother Randy–that whole episode of spousal sharing is absent) found Tohme and introduced him to Michael in 2008. In an interview I did with Tohme in 2009, the faux doctor made it seem like he’d been friends with Michael and the Jacksons for years. In fact Jermaine says he and Halima heard about him from mutual friends in Gabon, Africa in 2008. Later Jermaine is shocked when Tohme turns against him and tries to auction off all the possessions from Neverland without authority.
But you can only feel sorry for Jermaine Jackson. He rationalizes his father’s abuse while detailing beatings and violence, including the use of “switches.” He confirms that “over time, Randy and Janet got to know what the belt felt like, mainly for disobedience.” Jermaine admits “There is no denying that Michael was terrified of our father.” But in the same breath, Jermaine writes: “If he [Joseph] had truly abused us, we wouldn’t still be speaking to him…” I would counter that Michael was not speaking to his father at the time of his death, and would be mortified to see how Joseph Jackson has since behaved.
NUKKA SIT DOWN!

Halle Berry Puts Her Canadian Home on the Market
Back in 2008 she and then-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry bought a home in Canada for $1.6 million, and now Halle Berry is looking to sell it off.
The “Monster’s Ball” starlet has listed her 63-acre property for a cool $1.9 million, looking to make a tidy profit in the depressed real estate market.
According to the listing, Berry’s digs include three bedrooms, a private lake, and a custom-designed staircase.
As for why Halle is looking to part with the place, it seems that with the demise of her relationship with Aubry, she just doesn’t get to use the vacation home anymore and has grown tired of paying to maintain the estate. However she won;t be able to celebrate on a broken foot!
Ouch! Halle Berry is pushed in a wheelchair from a hospital in Spain after breaking her foot while relaxing at the property she is staying at to film her new movie
Get better soon Halle!

White House Rejects Pardon For Marcus Garvey
White House Rejects Marcus Garvey Posthumous Pardon
The White House isn't letting Marcus Garvey off the hook even after his demise. Donovan Parker, a Jamaican attorney in Florida, who has been writing to the U.S. President every week requesting a posthumous presidential pardon for Garvey was denied.
"It is the general policy of the Department of Justice that requests for posthumous pardons for federal offences not be processed for adjudication," Ronald Rogers, White House pardon attorney told Parker in a letter.
Garvey was convicted in the 1920s of mail fraud and was incarcerated for almost three years before he was released and deported to Jamaica.
"I believe there has been no coordinated effort to get this issue in front of the President," Parker said. "I think if President Obama reads it (the request), he will sign it."

Toni Braxton Inducted Into Georgia Music Hall Of Fame
Toni Braxton was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. The honor was given to Braxton during the 33rd annual ceremony which was held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta. The award was presented to the songstress by governor Nathan Deal.
But I just could not help noticing her face. It looks like she’s been to see Dr Schiffrin to get some work put in.JUST LOOK!
Sources say that Toni showed her appreciation by singing a line from Georgia On My Mind.
Of course there was drama on hand. Her sisters bailed on their performance there but we won’t get to find out why and what really happened until the new season starts.
Usher and Justin Beiber were also at the award ceremony and kicked it with Toni backstage. Usher and Justin Beiber presented the Chairman’s Award to their vocal coach Jan Smith.
Toni is still just as divalicious as the day she entered the game.
What do you think of her lastest honor better yet her new face?

NOTE TO BIG GIPP..Never mess with someone who knows your TEAS..They might get exposed!
Never get into an argument with a blogger who knows your deepest darkest secrets. I'm talking to you Big Gipp from Goodie Mob...
Last week the Straight from the A blog got their hands on some pictures of The Dungeon Family's photo shoot with GQ Magazine. For some reason Big Gipp from Goodie Mob started questioning Straight From the A in a very aggressive and rude manner over Twitter about where she'd gotten the photos.
Several times Straight From the A informed Gip that they needed to take the conversation off line, but Gip kept going and making disparaging remarks about Straight From the A. So why did she put his ass on blast and I mean literally…
OH MY…..The dirt!!!!

Tanya Young Williams TALKS "Basketball Wives" And Domestic Violence, Says She Slept With A Knife Under Her Pillow
Tanya Young Williams, the seldom-seen star of "Basketball Wives LA" recently dished in a revealing interview for HuffPo Black Voices where she revealed details of her abusive marriage, how she feels about her LA castmates and why we rarely see her on the show. Get the deets inside......
Reality tv star and motivational speaker Tonya Young Williams recently sat for a very revealing interview with Huffington Post where she talked about the negative sterotypes associated with "Basketball Wives" and revealed the shocking details of her abusive marriage (she sometimes slept with a knife under her pillow for protection!). Here are some highlights:

What are your thoughts on Shaunie stating that the show's portrayal of black women is beginning to look somewhat negative?
I really respect Shaunie having the courage to come out and pretty much speak against her own show, because I think she went into this with a vision. She knows what it's like to live the life of a NBA wife. The beauty, the glamor, the upside -- but she also knows the taxing part. So I think her vision was to go into this and give the viewer a really good inside look of what our lives were like. The show has veered off into a different path than what she anticipated.
So yes, I do agree that a lot of what finally makes it to air are negative depictions of mostly women of color, and all the good stuff unfortunately gets left on the editing room floor. Until more people come out and say, "We want to see the total picture," I think networks and production companies are going to feed into what the few people are saying they want instead of really understanding that there's a broader audience out there who wants to see a balanced show.

So far it seems like you're really distant from your other castmates. Why aren't you in more scenes, episodes and publicity shots?
During the first two weeks, everyone knows that there was a very big fight. And it was my decision not to be engaged in that in any way. And so the fallout of not being involved in the fight was that I was sort of ostracized by some of the women on camera and maybe the network and the producers. But I made the decision that was right for me. So whether they decide to include me in an episode or not, that's not my call. I've done the work, they've got loads of footage on me.

Are you cool with any of the women on the show?
I speak to Jackie quite a bit, but I don't have anything against any of the young ladies. I think they will look back at their reaction to me and say, "Wait a minute, you know what? My reaction was very immature and not very intelligent because it was based on Tanya making the right decision." So I look at them and say, "Hey, they're nice people, they're trying to grind and want to be on TV," and I hope it works out for everyone involved.

In addition to starring on the show, you're also the spokeswoman against domestic violence. Do you mind speaking on the parallels between domestic violence and the show's audience?
Yes. One of my real initiatives is to go on the show and say firstly, be proud of who you are as a woman of color. And the second thing was, I am a spokesperson for the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and statistics show that probably 50 percent of the viewing audience of "Basketball Wives" are currently victims of domestic violence or have been victims of domestic violence. So we took time to gather some tape for the show of the executives of the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and they spoke about what they do and how they can be helpful. So it was really important for me to use this as a platform and help so many people who are in that audience to at least reach out for help. I really hope that the network and the production team will think that it's important enough to show to the audience because it's much bigger than the show.

Within the last year it has been widely reported that one of your castmates, Gloria Govan, has experienced a few domestic issues with Los Angeles Lakers star Matt Barnes. Did you get a chance to speak with her on her situation?
Gloria has decided not to talk much about her situation, and I respect that. And so I'm not going to talk much about it, either. But if she opens the door for us to have that discussion and she wants it to be public, then I'll follow through. But outside of that, I don't want invade her private space in an area that is so personal to each of us.
As a spokeswoman you have opened up about your experiences with domestic violence during your marriage to Jayson Williams. Can you shed some light on what you went through?
Yes, I'm still married. I filed for divorce two years ago, and we've been a part of the divorce court for two years. But when it comes to domestic violence, what I had put into my divorce decree was some of the situations that I experienced at the hands of Jayson. Primarily, yes, I did sleep with a knife under my bed because when Jayson drank too much, or he took sleeping pills or any type of prescription medication, it would make him a different person; and because I have been threatened before, I had to protect myself and my children by any means necessary. I didn't know who was walking into my bedroom: Was it the man that I fell in love with 20 years ago, or was it the Jayson who was being erratic and violent? I speak more openly when I do seminars with women about domestic violence. I've been through a lot of the things that they have been through, and I haven't experienced everything that they've experienced. But when you feel powerless or you feel the need to protect yourself, you're indeed the victim.

Have you had any contact with Jayson since his incarceration?
Jayson has done a lot of things that have been very hurtful to me over the years. However, I wish him nothing but the best, because I want him to be a great father to my children. I believe that everyone deserves a second chance. And I am willing to give him a second chance to step into my children's life and be an amazing father to them, because I married him expecting him to do that. So despite the fact that I've been through a lot -- and he knows that I've been through a lot -- I can't allow that to stop me from providing my children with a man who I think can be an amazing father. He and I haven't communicated since he has gone away, because once he was incarcerated unfortunately I found out more information [about him] that further punched me in the stomach, and it was very painful to me in a personal way.

When Jayson is released from prison in seven months, is there any chance that you two could possibly make amends with each other and rekindle the flame for a reality show?
Honestly, I haven't thought about that. I'm not in a place right now where my heart is open to Jayson in an intimate way. But I am open to him being an amazing father to my children. I want that. And that will cause us to be in each other's company and to talk. Outside of the chaos, we have a great time together, and that's something that probably won't go away. But when it comes to a romantic perspective, I'm just not there right now. I've still got so many wounds that are deep and trying to heal. All I can do is pray that he comes out physiologically healthy, sober, emotionally healthy, and that he can step into my children's life and be a dynamic man.
It's funny that you asked about the reality show, because I've already been approached by production companies wanting to know if I would be open to doing a show with Jayson. And I haven't had the time to take the meetings, I've got so many other things that are more in line with my goals and my vision. That's where my focus is. But Jayson is a huge talent. He made mistakes and he can be crazy at times, but no one can take away his gift of gab, his wit and his personality. So I wasn't surprised to get the calls. But at the end of the day, I've got to do things that are going to further my goals and aspirations before I jump into the reality world on that end.

Swizz Beatz Strikes a Deal with UK Baby Mama
Last year there were rumors that Swizz Beatz was shirking his financial responsibilities for the love child he fathered in London with Russian singer songwriter Jahna Sebastian
Anyway doe, Swizz Beatz settled up with Jahna and now everything is fine ...
From Page Six
Swizz Beatz has reached an official child-support deal with the mother of his love child in London. Sources confirmed to us that 33-year-old Bronx-born producer and rapper Beatz, husband of Alicia Keys, whose real name is Kasseem Dean, recently struck an out-of-court settlement with UK-based singer Zhanna Andrianova, mother of his 3-year-old daughter Nicole.
Russian Andrianova, who performs under the name Jahna Sebastian, met Beatz in a London club in 2007, and their daughter was born in May 2008. In ’09, he traveled to London with Keys to take a paternity test that proved he was the father.
The settlement comes after a prolonged back-and-forth between NY-based lawyers for Andrianova and Beatz, who has four children by four women. Attorney for Beatz Robert Anthony Evans Jr. told us that he supports each of his children, adding, “Mr. Dean has never failed to deliver on his responsibility to his children.”
Sources tell us Beatz has been paying interim child support for his daughter with Andrianova, and the official settlement was delayed due to her being unable to travel to the US for court appearances, and her refusal to accept a settlement he offered a year ago.
Moscow-born Andrianova has been fighting visa problems in the UK, and in ’09 won a battle to prevent her from being deported to Russia. Lawyers for Andrianova say Beatz also agreed to pay her $42,000 legal fees as part of the settlement, signed by him in July and her in August, and a judge at Manhattan Family Court granted them a money judgment Thursday to pursue payment, which could have resulted in his assets being seized or bank accounts frozen. Following this, a check for full payment was sent by Beatz to her lawyer, divorce attorney Raoul Felder on Friday.
Beatz married Alicia in Corsica in July 2010, and she gave birth to their son Egypt in October of that year. He also has a son Prince Nasir, born in 2000, with Nicole Levy, and another son, Kasseem Dean Jr., born in 2006, with his former wife Mashonda Tifrere.

OOOPS UPDATE…NO ENGAGEMENT!

Don't expect some big celebrity-studded wedding from R&B crooner Ne-Yo anytime soon. He took to twitter recently to deny his "engagement."

Ne-Yo took to his twitter account to set the record straight...again...after reports flew across the web that he and Monyetta Shaw were expecting their second child and getting married.
It turns out...Monyetta is indeed pregnant, but the couple has no plans to marry. In his statement, he says that Monyetta doesn't have a "rep" and whomever gave those reports to the media was a liar.
Ok twit fam. To put all rumors to rest. Not engaged but am expecting second child. Mo has no rep. The person claiming to rep her lied.
Thanx for the interest in my personal. Know that the day I DO decide to take that step you will hear it from the horse's mouth. Much love
Thanks for clearing that up Ne-Yo. Even though it sounds like Monyetta might have put out a statement herself in hopes of it actually happening

After performing "All Of The Lights," which features vocals by Fergie, a recent concert, Kanye West declared, "Rest in peace to the Black Eyed Peas. You're gonna be missed!" Does this mean America should be on the lookout for another source of repetitive, soulless pop that people only dance to when they're too drunk to care?
