The Daily Buzz For Sept 23

Kanye West: ‘for ‘W’ Magazine ‘I wouldn’t say that anyone in fashion is on my side’
Some people believe that Kanye West is a madman. Some people believe he’s a genius. I sort of believe he’s both. He’s both crazy and brilliant, defiantly eccentric, and possibly/probably chemically imbalanced. Kanye goes Full Kanye in a new W Magazine cover story for their October issue (which features multiple covers). The funniest part is that after basically ranting about Wreck-It Ralph, Elf and the fashion industry for four pages, W Magazine included this line at the end: “This is an excerpt from a longer interview and it was edited and condensed for clarity.” Hahaha!!! The poor bastard who had to transcribe this mess… we need to buy that person a drink. You can read Peak Kanye here, and here are some highlights:

When he first started caring about fashion: “I just liked picking out my own outfit for kindergarten. Now my daughter definitely picks out her own outfits and she will lay it down and look at it and say, ‘This is not great.’ And then she tries to tell me what to wear and what she likes out of the closet, like just my mom being in a fur store and me picking one and saying, ‘I like this one mom,’ and her looking at the price and it being the most expensive one. So, I think that’s where I got the expensive taste from.”

His debt: “This year I literally tweeted after doing a fashion show, ‘Hey, I’m $53 million in debt and people say, ‘I can’t understand that. That sounds like MC Hammer where we don’t relate to that.’ It’s not for you to relate to that…the people who know what the f–k I’m talking about know what the f–k I’m talking about. So I refuse people who write me off as some rich kid taking a hobby, fashion as a f–king hobby or a fashion plate. How could you even dare to think that, that you’re on the same level of this, blah, blah, blah?”

Art & education: “And the entire time, no one, um – very few people even knew that I have a f–king Ph.D. in art, you know? And not that that would even make the difference, but me saying that makes the difference to the exact people I’m talking to it’s, like, shut the f–k up. I will f–king laser you with alien f–king eyes and explode your f–king head. Shut the f–k up – try to write a rap. Okay then. I made this f–king T-shirt, now shut up. And it cost me everything I had and I gave everything I had.
He’s like the elf in Elf: “No, I’m the elf that’s Will Ferrell, that’s too big for his hands to make the toys…But he wants to make the toys. Why? Not just so he could play with them, but he wants to bring joy to the world. I am a creator and it’s my responsibility. There is no amount of money, like as I tell my managers right now, ‘What is your opinion of success?’ So many people look at success is just like having money. True, not having money can be a sign of a lack of success and also can deter you from being successful at other things that you do, but if you take guys like LVMH and like Kering, they might only have two or three businesses that are actually profitable and they all work together, but they are successful at taking brands that mean something to people.”
To the W reporter saying she’s on his side: “Um, no. I wouldn’t say that you’re on my side. I wouldn’t say that anyone in fashion is on my side. I don’t think there’s anyone on my side…I’m not saying I like that. I’m saying that to this date they do not understand who I am. They will not understand until after I’m gone. I am misunderstood and there is no one in fashion that’s on my side. Because if that’s the case, then take me and say, ‘Here’s your 80 people that work for you and here’s a straight up, honest deal for it.’ You don’t have to sign your soul away in order to. I don’t feel like…”

[From W Magazine]
The last part of the interview is just one page, a solid block of text as Kanye rants about his influences and how everyone is against him and he’s a Renaissance Person much like Michaelangelo only no one will let him paint the angels. While I followed much of the rant, and I understood how Kanye organically jumped from point to point, from thought to thought, the last half of the piece got sort of messy and unhinged. The truth is, only Kanye know what Kanye means. Only Kanye can think Kanye-thoughts, #NoDisrespectToBenAffleck. That’s what I got out of this: everyone is against Kanye. Kanye is aggrieved. But maybe Kanye martyring himself for the cause of fashion is what he needs for inspiration.

#RHoA: Kandi Burruss and Porsha Williams Feuding Over Request For A Threesome?
Kandi Burruss is gearing up for another season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and it sounds like some alliances are shifting in Atlanta. Kandi and Porsha Williams used to be close friends last season, but some reports are now hinting that the two ladies are growing apart. Many have speculated over why they are no longer friends, and it sounds like one source has a pretty outrageous reason: sex. If you think this rumor is outrageous, join the club.

According to a new tweet, Kandi Burruss has supposedly found a new interest in sleeping with women. Apparently, her husband isn’t giving her enough, and she enjoys inviting women into their bedroom after having their son, Ace. It’s a rumor that is easily believed for two reasons: She isn’t the first housewife to have a threesome, as Brandi Glanville from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has admitted to threesomes to keeping her marriage to Eddie Cibrian hot, and two, she owns a huge sex toy business, so her fans know that she’s frisky and isn’t scared to try something new.

In the tweet, which was shared by an account called Bravoholic, a source claims that Kandi and Porsha aren’t speaking these days because Kandi had asked her friend to be in a threesome with herself and her husband, Todd Tucker. The tweet reveals that one of the storylines for the upcoming season is Kandi’s desire to sleep with women and that she and her husband have already experimented with other women. Things go awry when she asks Williams to be the other woman.
Apparently, Porsha tells Kandi Burruss that she doesn’t sleep with women and says it in a way that’s rude and condescending to Burruss. Even if Kandi Burruss sleeps with women and has threesomes with her husband, would she really ask Porsha to be the other woman, given Williams has shown no interest in women? And would she really ask Williams, given they are filming The Real Housewives of Atlanta? Plus, Kandi Burruss knows that Porsha will dish the dirt, as she had no problem spreading rumors about Peter Thomas supposedly cheating on Cynthia Bailey last season.

Of course, this rumor could be completely false. The reason for Kandi Burruss and Porsha falling out could have something to do with Burruss taking Kenya Moore’s side during the reunion special last year. It’s no secret that Williams and Kenya don’t get along, as Moore has made several comments about Porsha’s marriage to Kordell Stewart. On the reunion special, Kandi Burruss revealed that she felt bad for Kenya, as she felt that people attacked her for no valid reason. And maybe this is why Porsha is upset with Burruss.
“I was sticking up for what’s right. People try to make Kenya wrong in every situation just because they don’t like her. It’s not OK for a man to physically attack a woman, and they can’t make it OK just because it’s Kenya. I’m shocked that they were taking up for him. Looking back at that Miami episode, you can clearly see he called all of us bitches and all kinds of names. He knocked his own aunt out trying to get to Kenya. There is no way they should be supporting that type of aggression towards women,” Kandi Burruss revealed last year on her blog for The Real Housewives of Atlanta, according to Bravo.

What do you think of this rumor regarding Kandi Burruss? Do you think it is too juicy to be true, or do you think that Burruss really did ask Porsha to join her and Todd in a threesome?

‘Empire’ Boss Explains Decision to Kill Off Major Character in Season 3 Premiere (SPOILERS)
SPOILER ALERT: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 3 premiere of “Empire,” which aired Wednesday, Sept. 21 on Fox.
After a summer of waiting, “Empire” viewers finally know who fell to their death on last season’s finale…Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) is dunzo.
Last season’s final episode saw Rhonda fighting with Anika (Grace Gealey) on top of a roof when Andre (Trai Byers) walked out onto the scene to see someone fall off the balcony — but he didn’t see who.

Moments after Season 3 kicked off Wednesday night, Rhonda fell from the sky, her bloody and lifeless body landing on a car, and there’s no doubt about it: she’s dead.

However, Rhonda came back in the episode by way of Andre’s hallucinations, setting up a storyline for the eldest Lyon brother — who’s dealt with mental illness over the past two seasons — to deal with new demons in the upcoming episodes.
So, does that mean that Doubleday is still a series regular, or will she just appear every now-and-then in hallucinations or flashbacks?

“Empire” showrunner Ilene Chaiken declined to answer that question in an interview conducted earlier Wednesday by several news outlets, but she teased, “We could still see her. Rhonda is quite likely not out of our ‘Empire’ world just yet. I don’t want to say how long Andre will have this unusual relationship with his deceased wife, but there’s a good chance that we will see more of her.”
Chaiken also reveals that at the time the Season 2 finale aired, she and the “Empire” writers — let alone the cast — did not know if it would be Rhonda or Anika who would be killed off. They just knew that one of them had to die, in order to serve the story of the upcoming third season.

“It was a really, really tough decision because it wasn’t as if we had an agenda last season. We love the character and we love the actress and we didn’t want to lose her from the show. It was really the story that led to the decision, Chaiken explains. “That fight on the balcony, it just happened. It wasn’t in the original finale script, and as Lee [Daniels] and I were working on it, we loved it and we said, we have to do it. And then I said, ‘Lee, you realized that means one of these women will be killed off?!’ Lee and Danny [Strong] both said, ‘No! We love them both! They can’t die!’ But after much anguishing, we came to the very, very tough conclusion.”

Rhonda’s death is clearly impacting Andre in a harsh way — he is hallucinating that she’s still alive. How will he continue to cope with her being gone?
It’s obviously taking a large toll on him. He’s bereaved deeply and profoundly, and he’s also a man with a delicate psychological constitution who, apparently based on that scene, is going to take this very hard and might face challenges that other people don’t face. It’s going to be an ongoing challenge for Andre. The way that he regroups and goes forward is going to be very stunning.

Is Anika really off the hook? Andre did see her push Rhonda over the edge, right?
He didn’t see that Anika set out to hurt Rhonda — in fact, I think Andre knows that Rhonda came for Anika. I would venture that he knows that Rhonda came for Anika so although he’s deeply upset at it, I don’t think he’s looking at Anika as someone who came after her to kill her. But regardless, Anika is in a pretty uncomfortable situation, stuck in that family and stuck in that house.

So is there any fear of Anika being charged with Rhonda’s death? Or is it just understood that there was a fight and no one is at fault?
It will have repercussions for her. It will absolutely have ongoing ramifications.
Anika lied to Lucious (Terrence Howard) about having a baby girl. Where does their very twisted relationship stand now, especially with Lucious’ mother (Leslie Uggams) living in the house?

You’ve identified a source of conflict and story for us! Not only are Lucious and Anika locked in a loveless and conflicted and contentious marriage, but Anika is unwelcome in that home and unwanted by Leah who seems to have taken pretty comfortable to her role as woman of the house. They’re going to make one another’s lives hell.
Jamal chooses to perform a song that includes lyrics about the Orlando tragedy and Black Lives Matter. Why did the writers decide to incorporate those events?
We believe that’s what Jamal would be singing about — it’s who his character is and it’s his story and his drive for the season. He even stated it in the Season 2 finale that his intention is to make music with a view of doing good in the world. That’s what motivates him and he’s taking it all with a sense of mission — to change the narrative of his family and to lead his family away from these dark currents to Lucious has drawn him toward. That’s Jamal’s goal and his mission.

Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) is really trying to separate her relationship from Lucious. Will that last throughout the season?
The relationship between them is powerful and the things that draw them to one another won’t easily be vanquished, but her determinations are steadfast and sincere so I would say that it will be a source of tension between them. Lucious is really throwing down and much of his drive for this season is to win Cookie back, but her drive, which will evolve, is to try to start a new life and to cut herself loose from something that’s brought her pain.

Do we need to be worried about that Teddy Bear that Tariq (Morocco Omari) planted a camera inside?
We need to be worried. Tariq is very determined and he’s going after Lucious with a vengeance and I’m sure the teddy bear isn’t his only move.
Will Tariq continue to be an important character through the entirety of the season?
He’s an important character and it’ an important storyline for us and it will play throughout much of the season.

New Music: The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk – Starboy
The Weeknd is back!! Only hours after announcing his new album Starboy, and showing off his short hair cut, the R&B/Pop star debuts the LP’s title track, which features EDM hitmakers Daft Punk.

Abel is clearly in another stratosphere now, as he boasts about his superstar status and bankroll, which includes buying his mother a car and a crib (“We don’t pray for love, we just pray for cars”).
“Look what you’ve done,” he sings. “I’m a motherfu**ing Starboy.”
Set for release on Nov. 25, Starboy features 18 tracks, and is already available for pre-order on iTunes.
Earlier this month, The Weeknd promised that Starboy would be his “best-sounding” album to date with influences ranging from The Smiths and Bad Brains to Prince.

“I think it’ll be the best-sounding album I’ve ever done,” he told VMAN. “It’s hard to label the sound because, when I first came out, nobody would label it R&B. I just want to keep pushing the envelope without it feeling forced.”

The gorgeous actress dazzled in a flowy lavender Ellie Saab gown that featured double slits and stripped trimming on the red carpet for the Queen of Katwe premiere held at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.
She topped off her look with lavender headwrap that added the perfect touch to her ensemble.

Frank Ocean’s Dad Loses AGAIN In $142 Million Lawsuit Against Russell Simmons
Frank Ocean’s father has been shut down once again in his $142 million dollar lawsuit against Russell Simmons and his website – over allegations they defamed him by labeling him a dead beat dad – with a Federal Court judge ordering the case to be dismissed once and for all, and the man not be awarded from his complaint.
Here’s the latest: On September 20th, the Federal Court judge came back with his decision and sided with Russell Simmons and Global Grind, by throwing out the lawsuit filed by Frank Ocean’s father once again.
The order explains that regardless of all Cooksey’s allegations of fraud and defamation against his good name, the simple fact of the matter is he waited too long to file the lawsuit, which makes it barred due to the statute of limitations.

Further, the judge says Cooksey’s attempt to claim he didn’t know about the time frame he had to file due to insanity is absurd — especially since he understood his legal rights throughout and even sent the defendants a cease and desist prior to filing the $142 million lawsuit.
Due to him waiting too long to bring the case against Simmons and his website, the claims are dismissed with prejudice (aka he can never refile the lawsuit in the future). The judge ordered the case to be closed once and for all, following years of the case dragging on between the parties.

Here’s the backstory: Back in 2014, Calvin Cooksey, Frank Ocean’s estranged father, filed suit against Russell Simmons and his website Global Grind for portraying him as a horrible father in an article. He claimed that the real story was that Frank’s “Money Grubbing Mother” was the reason he hadn’t seen his son since he was 5. In short, he denied the allegations of being a dead beat dad.
The article at the center of the lawsuit was a write up based on a Tweet that the singer wrote calling Cooksey a scheming father and a deadbeat.

He filed suit demanding $142 million in damages for the harm and lost income he suffered as a result of the article. Cooksey also filed docs explaining he is so broke that he couldn’t afford to pay the court costs and asked for a waiver of the fees. He said he lived off his social security disability of $789.66 a month and couldn’t even remember the last time he had a job.
Russell and Global Grind responded to the lawsuit explaining they didn’t defame Cooksey and demanded the suit be tossed out of court. The judge eventually dismissed all the claims and awarded Frank Ocean’s dad nothing. Cooksey filed an appeal and that court overturned the dismissal and the lawsuit had been pending for several months.

LOL!

Cam Newton enters new territory with passionate comments on race in America
After maintaining a rather neutral stance on the violence and unrest in the country recently, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton spoke of accountability as a central theme Wednesday.
If he’s held accountable at his job, so should others when the stakes are higher than winning and losing a football game.

“But what if people are dying?” Newton asked at his weekly press conference.
In his most expansive comments on race relations and social justice in his career, the league’s reigning MVP spoke for more than 12 minutes about race in America less than one day after yet another black man was gunned down by police, this time just up the road in Charlotte.

“I’m an African-American. I am not happy how the justice has been kind of dealt with over the years. The state of oppression in our community. But we also, as black people, have to do right by ourselves. We can’t be hypocrites.
“I say that on one voice but also on another voice that when you go public or when things happen in the community, it’s not the fact that things are happening.  It’s the way they’re being treated after they’re happening. When you get a person that does some unjust things or killing an innocent person, killing fathers, killing people who have actual families. That’s real.”
Then Newton continued with the strongest statement I’ve ever heard him say on anything.

“I have a son and a daughter that I’m responsible for. So how would I be if one day they come home and there’s no more daddy?”
This is the kind of chilling idea that sticks with you. Remember when President Obama said if he had a son, he’d look like Trayvon Martin? This was as close to that as Cam Newton could get.

It’s as passionate as I’ve seen Newton speak since two days after the Super Bowl when he stood at his locker and defended his postgame press conference and not diving on the loose ball. He wasn’t stalling to think of how to phrase something correctly.
This was not the “We’re beyond racism” Cam that we’ve seen and that I wrote about last week. This was Cam begging to know when enough would be enough.
Newton did touch on black-on-black crime in major cities, though, which will dissatisfy some. Most people commit crimes to whom they are in relative proximity. And in many of these cities, discriminatory housing policies dating back to Jim Crow have led to the creation of these “inner cities”, “ghettos” and “projects”.
Newton acknowledged his lose-lose situation Wednesday. He’s long been stuck in a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” conundrum. Speak strongly on race and racism (especially here in North Carolina) and there will be division. Speak on it strongly and get something wrong, and maybe your well-meaning message creates harm. Ignore it completely and maybe you’ll be called a traitor.

But Newton said he was always going to stay true to himself. He says he knows he’s a black man and doesn’t want to escape that, but he also says he doesn’t view the world through a race prism. He wants accountability on the practice field and in communities and within police departments.
He thought it crazy how long the list of names has become of people who have died at police hands. Almost every day there’s a new hashtag. #TamirRace. #EricGarner. #TerenceCrutcher. He finds it hard to fathom that some officers, after shooting and killing these people, are put on paid leave.
Newton was wise not to point fingers at the Tuesday incident in Charlotte that left Keith Lamont Scott dead after he was waiting to pick up his son. Police, relatives and alleged witnesses are offering different accounts of what led to Smith being shot and killed by an officer who had two years on the job.

Did Scott have a book or a gun? Did officers see Scott, a father of seven, exit his car with a gun once or twice? Why wasn’t the officer who shot him wearing a body camera? With North Carolina’s new law on body camera footage about to go into effect, will we ever see the film from the cameras of the other officers at the scene? Can Charlotte effectively protest Wednesday night without causing injury to others, or will we again face the paradox of meeting a militarized police force sent to de-escalate the situation? Will there be justice when the truth is found?

And if Cam wants accountability, I guess he woke up!

Mariah Carey to Release New Duet 'Infamous' With 'Empire' Star Jussie Smollett
Just a day after it was announced that her Las Vegas residency will end in 2017, word of a brand-new song from Mariah Carey has surfaced via "Empire" star Jussie Smollet.
On the forthcoming season of the hit FOX show, Mimi will be one of the many guest stars aside from Taye Diggs, Phylicia Rashad and French Montana, and now we have a small detail about what her cameo is going to entail. Earlier this year, we learned that she will play a fictional superstar named Kitty (appropriate), who comes to the "Empire"-land to collaborate with Jussie's character, Jamal Lyon.

Adrienne Bailon Says She's Not the Cheating Ex Rob Kardashian Called Out on Rob & Chyna
Rob has said that one of his exes is the reason he's so paranoid about Blac Chyna's behavior.

On this week's episode of Rob & Chyna, reality television's finest exploration of life as a new couple, Rob Kardashian said that one of the reasons he’s so paranoid about infidelity is that one of his exes “was cheating and having sex with so many different people.” Given that his famous exes include Rita Ora and Adrienne Bailon, it was only a matter of time 'til someone started wondering if he was referring to one of them. But in a new clip from talk show The Real (via Us Weekly), Adrienne says she’s definitely not the person Rob was talking about.
“That girl was certainly not me,” Adrienne said. "I absolutely never cheated on Rob, and I just want to clarify that. And the way it’s said — it’s like, 'She slept with mad people.' I’m like, 'Uh, I can’t speak for anybody else, but I can assure you that was not me.’” She does go on to say that she understands why he’d still be worried about cheating, no matter who did it to him. “It makes you question yourself, it makes you question your self-worth … Was I not pretty enough? Was I not sexy enough? Am I not thin enough?”

The mystery of who cheated on Rob may never be solved, but in the meantime, at least.

Jared Leto Set To Play Andy Warhol In Upcoming Biopic
Talk about inspired casting. Jared Leto playing famed artist Andy Warhol is absolutely perfect, in my opinion. Warhol’s life is practically tailor-made for Leto.
Tentatively titled Warhol, the film’s script, being written by Terence Winter (Wolf of Wall Street), is based on the Victor Bockris book Warhol: The Biography. Not only is Leto starring, but he’ll also serve as producer, alongside Michael De Luca (The Social Network).

Warhol is best known for introducing the world to pop art, blending art with commerce. His work with Campbells soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles, and celebrities like Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe made him into a household name.
The openly gay artist’s famed art studio, The Factory, became the cultural hot spot for New York society. He was also associated with New York’s famed Studio 54 which he was a fixture at. The term, “15 minutes of fame,” was also coined by him. Warhol died in 1987 at the age of 58-years-old.
Leto won’t be the first to immortalize Warhol on screen. Guy Pearce did so in Factory Girl, as did David Bowie and Crispin Glover in Basquiat and The Doors respectively.

What do you think of this casting? Spot on or way off?
