The Daily Buzz For June 22

LeBron James Covers Sports Illustrated as ‘The Promise Keeper’
*His promise to bring an NBA championship to The Land was fulfilled Sunday night when the buzzer sounded on Sunday’s Championship game. And for this, Sports Illustrated has named LeBron James “The Promise Keeper” on its new cover.

King James, also named Finals MVP, broke the Cleveland curse with the Cavs’ win over Golden State, and in the process helping his team enter history books as the first to overcome a 3 games to 1 deficit to take the title — Cleveland’s first championship since Jim Brown’s Cleveland Browns won the NFL’s big game in December of 1952.

LeBron promised Cleveland the trophy two years ago, when he brought his talents back home from the Miami Heat. “My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now,” James said in 2014.

#RHOA: Sheree Whitfield Drags Instagram Troll Over Cavs: F**k outta here!
What started off as an innocent victory celebration, on Instagram, quickly escalated into a fierce war of the words between reality star Sheree Whitfield and a follower who questions her loyalty to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star battled it out with an Instagram follower immediately following Sunday night’s win. The social media kerfuffle began when the Cleveland native posted the following message on her Instagram page:

"Congrats to Lebron, the cavs, and the city of #Cleveland!! What a great game! ??? #MyHometown#RecordBreaking #NBAFinals"

The post didn’t set well with of one of her followers who challenged Whitfield’s authenticity as a true fan by stating,
"northern_girl_1@shereewhitfield girl, please, u ain’t got one post where you supported them. Have several seats. Leave it to us real fans to celebrate."
Several fans attempted to come to the aid of the RHOA veteran, but Whitfield, who refused the call to be seated and clapped into action with a verbal assault that would cut to the quick of her wittiest cast mates. She defends her position without mincing words and makes it quite clear that she controls what is the HBIC on her social media accounts.
"shereewhitfield@northern_girl_1 if u don’t get the fuck off my page with that BS. I post what I want on MY page and when I want. Unlike u butt holes I don’t live for or thru social media. U don’t know my every move or thought! Unnecessary but know this….CLEVELAND all day erday! F*ck Outta here"

The less than impressed follower offers up evidence, via a question Sheree had posted two days prior, where she asked her followers to sound off on which team they were going for in game 6, but declined to reveal her choice.

@nortern girl_1 responds with a full on attack of Sheree’s character.

"you’re FAKE as hell! Even your last post, you asked “who y’all got”, but you didn’t want to say who YOU had….because you wasn’t sure if the CAVS would win or not! FAKE FAKE FAKE. And YOU gtfoh"

In a rapid fire return, that wouldn’t be countered, the She by Sheree designer clapped down the dissenter with a tongue lashing that would end it all, when she exclaimed

"listen u attention seeking whore…. I can ask and interact on my page as I please. If u don’t like it take ur bored ass elsewhere. U won’t b missed! Those who know me PERSONALLY know who I’ve always rode with! du I’m from Cleveland bih"
Ouch!
This type of communication has become the norm as we share our personal lives more than ever, on social media. What’s your take on social media clap backs? Are they necessary? Should celebrities refrain from responding to those who troll the?

Taraji P. Henson & Danny Strong Are The Buzz Of Hollywood This Week

This week, two Empire figures dominated the headlines.
On Wednesday, Taraji P. Henson was honored at Women in Film’s Crystal + Lucy Awards. The actress received the Lucy Award from Fox’s Dana Walden. The awards event is meant to shine a light on equal pay and opportunities for women in Hollywood. In her acceptance speech Henson, spoke about graduating from college as a single mom. She was told that a “Black woman can’t open a movie.” She continued:
“If I do just as good a job as men, why shouldn’t I get paid the same? Is it because I don’t have a penis? In this day and age I can attach one. I have penises in many different colors at home … Art is powerful, if we don’t have an example for humanity on the screen, what are we doing? That is how we change the world.”

In other exciting news, the co-creator of Empire, Danny Strong closed a multi-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. In addition to continuing to executive produce, sometimes direct and co-write Empire, he will also help develop, write, direct and supervise new projects for the studio. Dana Walden and Gary Newman, CEOs of 20th Century Fox TV and Fox Television Group said:
“Our relationship with Danny goes all the way back to his days as an actor on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Little did we know then that he would one day go on to co-create one of the biggest hits in the history of our studio and network, let alone the No. 1 show on broadcast television. He’s a spectacular talent who can literally do it all, and everyone — from actors and writers, to the crew and executives — loves working with him. This is a big win for our company and we couldn’t be happier personally that Danny will continue to write, direct, supervise and develop series for us for years to come.”

Strong added:
“Working with Dana and Gary and their entire team has been one of the best experiences of my career. Without their guidance and creative instincts, Empire never would have made it on the air, let alone become the success that it has. I’m so honored to be in business with a company that continues to raise the bar with excellent and original programming and am looking forward to many more years with such a fantastic and talented group of people.”

It’s been 20 years since that first Independence Day movie, and finally Independence Day: Resurgence is coming out! While the film officially drops on June 24, the stars of the explosive sequel came out to celebrate the premiere on June 20, and they looked absolutely amazing! Which is super impressive because it reached 100 degrees outside of the Chinese Theater in Hollywood where the premiere was taking place!
The boys of the movie were killing it on the carpet! Liam looked overwhelmingly handsome in his classing black suit with a white shirt and a black skinny tie. The you star Garrett Wareing looked awesome alongside Liam rocking a classy blue suit with a lighter blue tie. Then there’s Jeff, who looked super sharp in an all-black ensemble. He must have been steaming, but he looked cool as a cucumber!

Vivica looked absolutely stunning rocking a navy blue and white asymmetrical sun dress! The A-line shape looked AMAZING on her body – we’re obsessed! Plus the triangle and circle pattern is so fresh and modern. Even though it was crazy-hot out, her hair and makeup was still on-point. Her bouncy, flirty waves were a perfect summer hairdo while her full lashes and pink lips were just as fun.

Star Joey King also looked super cute on the carpet, in a perfect summer frock. The dress has tan and white stripes with a sheer cover speckled with pink three-dimensional flowers. It looks adorable on this fresh young star, especially with her pretty curled ponytail, smokey eye and light pink lip.

Doctor Dre of ‘YO! MTV Raps’ goes blind in health crisis
A number of famous Black men in their mid to late 40s are encountering health issues. Medical conditions such as hypertension, stroke, heart attacks and diabetes are striking this age group.

The latest star to develop a serious health issue is the former host of “YO! MTV Raps,” Doctor Dre, whose real name is Andre Brown. He announced recently that he has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and it has taken a toll on him. Over the past few years he has undergone a toe amputation, suffered ankle injuries, and three years ago, he went blind.

The 52-year-old Brown was diagnosed with diabetes more than 10 years ago and he acknowledges that his weight and unhealthy lifestyle contributed to his condition. “I had that lifestyle of being out all the time. You had to be, doing what we were doing. You had to be on the pulse. There was no TMZ or Kim Kardashian. This was the raw beginning. We had to be everywhere,” he said in a recent interview.

Understandable since he has been at the forefront of rap since the early ’90s as a DJ for the group Beastie Boys, movie roles and host of the popular MTV show that focused on rap. He recently announced that he will be undergoing weight loss surgery that will hopefully reduce the complications stemming from his diabetes. Bariatric surgery has been supported in the medical community to treat the condition. According to Dr. Nicholas Stylopoulos, principal investigator at the division of endocrinology at Children’s Hospital Boston and Boston Medical School, ““What we found is that the secret for the cure of diabetes after gastric bypass lies in the intestine. The key message is that after gastric bypass, the intestine becomes the most important tissue for glucose use and this decreases blood sugar levels.”

Now Brown wants to get the message out about a preventable disease and his struggles with weight. He is shopping around a reality TV show that will chronicle his journey to lose weight and his upcoming surgery. Brown wants to spread awareness about the growing number of Blacks and Latinos diagnosed with diabetes. According to the CDC, type 2 diabetes is more prevalent among Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans than among Caucasians in the United States.

Praying for healing Dre…YOU GOT THIS!

J.J. Abrams Eyes Michael Jackson Limited Series About Singer's Last Days
For his latest TV project, J.J. Abrams is delving into the alt-universe that was Michael Jackson’s life.
Abrams, via his Warner Bros.-based Bad Robot Productions, is developing a limited series based on talk show host Tavis Smiley’s new book, Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days, TVLine has learned.

To be published on Tuesday, Before You Judge Me is billed as a “taut rendering of the final months in the life of one of the most iconic figures in modern popular culture. The book examines the soaring highs and deep lows faced by the late pop star — his constant hunt for privacy in a life that was more public than almost any other, and the pressures he endured as someone whose fame made him socially fragile and almost unable to live.”
The project, on which Smiley serves as an exec producer, has not yet been acquired by a network.
Jackson died in 2009 just weeks before the launch of his comeback concert series. His drug-induced death was ruled a homicide and his personal doctor, Conrad Murray, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Predictions as to where this project will land? Thoughts on who could possibly tackle the title role?
