HERE SHE IS Nana Meriwether CROWNED Miss USA 2012!
Nana Meriwether, a 27-year-old South African beauty, was crowned Miss USA 2012 during a ceremony held at Trump Tower in New York City. Nana, who represented the state of Maryland in the 2012 Miss USA pageant, was originally first runner-up in the competition but assumed the title thanks to Olivia Culpo's big win at the Miss Universe 2012 pageant.
Donald Trump, who owns the Miss Universe organization, commented on the extraordinary women who compete in the pageant saying, "They're brilliant, they're really into charity and the world of charity, and they're phenomenal people. They're very solid. In many cases, they went to the best colleges. In the case of Nana, she was a great athlete—a volleyball player [at UCLA]. "
In fact, the word "great" might be an understatement as Nana was a "two-time NCAA All-American, a Collegiate Volleyball Update Player of the Year and a holder of three national NCAA women’s volleyball records" at UCLA. She also played professional volleyball in Puerto Rico and trained for the 2008 Olympics.
Nana, who also posed with Miss Teen USA Logan West, has taken both the LSAT and the MCAT and is currently applying to medical schools while assuming the role of Miss USA and running The Meriwether Foundation, which supports AIDS/HIV clinics schools and orphanages in five African countries.
And there's an interesting reality tv tie-in to Nana's win as many folks have commented that she looks a lot like "RHOA" star Cynthia Bailey who had a famous run-in with former Miss USA Kenya Moore. Kenya even tweeted about Nana's win....

Gabourey Sidibe Lands NEW GIG As Host Of Public Television's "AfroPoP"
On January 22, Yelling to the Sky actress Gabourey Sidibe will make her debut as the host of Public Television's AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange, an innovative documentary series highlighting contemporary life, art and pop culture in the African Diaspora.
Produced by Black Public Media, the show will premiere on the WORLD Channel at 7:00pm ET on Tuesday, January 22 and continue on Tuesdays weekly through February 5, 2013.
Gabourey spoke about "AfroPoP", which uses independent films to bring awareness to human and women’s rights struggles saying,
"This season of AfroPoP helps give voice to those who truly need to be heard. I’m happy to help bring these stories to the American public and raise awareness of issues of vital concern to women and men in Africa as well as all who care about human rights.”
And since she's a star product of indie films like Precious, this new role suits her.

Nicki Minaj Hits The TCA Fox All-Star Party
Nicki Minaj makes her debut as an American Idol judge in week. Last night - after making a stop at the TCA Winter Press Tour earlier that day - she stepped out to the TCA FOX All-Star Party at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena.
Nicki hit the red carpet rockin’ all black; a lace dress with a cut out giving a small glimpse of her back, and her Christian Louboutin sandals.
In a promo clip for the show, the Young Money raptress shared that she’s excited about being a judge this season saying; “It feels pretty amazing to be a judge. I’m still getting used to it, and it’s inspiring to kind of feel like you’re finding someone right before they become a superstar, and hopefully you’re gonna help to mold that journey and kind of help to make them a better artist – and I’m excited for the kids that get to come here and have an opportunity to fulfill their dreams.”

Chris Brown Wants Grammy Duet with Rihanna?
According to reports Chris Brown wants to perform at the 2013 Grammy Awards with Rihanna.
If that's the case Chris Brown should stop rubbing his other girlfriend in Rihanna's face...
Radar Online reports,
"Chris wants to perform with Rihanna at the Grammys to show the whole world they are back together," a source told Radar exclusively. "Chris doesn't care what the haters say, and wants to give the viewers an over the top performance with Rihanna."
"He wants the fans to know this is the real deal, and he is a changed man," the source said. "If Rihannacan forgive him, the rest of the world should move on from what happened four years ago," he believes.
Meanwhile, with Rihanna out of the country, paparazzi have spotted Karruehce over Chris Brown's house several times this week and a picture posted on Instagram by a member of Chris Brown's entourage shows Karrucehe in the studio with the gang.

Deion Sanders' Legal Team QUITS, Says He CAN'T PAY And WON'T COMMUNICATE!
I told you about previously about Pilar Sanders coming out on the losing end of her ongoing divorce from Deion Sanders, but things just got even messier as the legal team that had previously won so many victories for Deion, is now ALSO divorcing him.
In legal documents filed on New Year's Eve, Deion's legal team effectively quit the divorce proceedings and asked to be withdrawn from the case, stating an inability to “effectively communicate with their client.” They noted that Deion is “unable to pay his attorneys pursuant to the terms of the employment agreements with his attorneys.”
It's interesting to see how this will play out since Deion and Pilar were due back in court on January 9 to resolve their custody dispute. SMH....
Pilar's publicist reached out to CherryOnTop to say,
“Nothing surprises me at this point, first he screws Pilar out of her support, now his legal counsel, what’s next? I look at it this way all Deion had to do was write a check and do right by the mother of his children. That’s what this all comes down to, a dollar, a simple dollar. Deion has been very blessed throughout his career and to have made the income he has, why would he not want his children to continue on with a similar lifestyle? Spite … that’s all it is spite, hate and resentment. Sadly, a new year has no resolution in anytime soon. I would ask to have the madness to stop, the lies (which are now leading to libel law suits), he [Deion] promises small time ‘blogs’ exclusives and to put them in touch with other sports figures & celebrities in exchange to attempt to make her look bad, writing nasty lies. At the end these bloggers will realize they got screwed as well as ending up in a court room themselves.”

Mary J. Blige Says You Can Be A Christian & Believe In Same Sex Marriage
All dolled-up, with a million places to go, the soulful Mary J. Blige is covering the latest issue of LA Confidential. The 42-year-old New York native opens up about her newest leading role (in Betty and Coretta), why she had to quit alcohol cold turkey and why she is a Christian who believes in same sex marriage. Peep a few excerpts.
KS: You’ve spoken openly about your addictions as well.
MJB: What I did was I chose to learn how to drink socially and it didn’t work. The test comes when you have to decide whether you’re drinking to be social or drinking to cover up something again. To cover up depression. To cover up guilt. Shame. Abandonment. All of that, man. Once I realized, “There you go again,” I had to stop. Whitney Houston’s death really affected me. Her death is another reason I stopped. I really do think I’m done. I looked at how that woman could not perform anymore.
KS: Were you afraid to do a more structured program of recovery because of your fame?
MJB: I don’t know why. But I didn’t want to go to rehab. I believe that anything man himself can do for me, God can do for me in a greater way. I decided to pray and to seek God on my own. I just stayed in The Word. And it worked.

MJB: I would say this to those people: I’m not God. God said not to judge anyone lest you be judged. That’s it. Who am I to point my finger? You’ve got to walk in love. To say you do not want people to be happy is so mean, so not me.
KS: And yet people do have some good reasons, as you have had, for not being happy. Poverty. Molestation. How old were you when you were molested?
MJB: I was 5. Mmmm … yes. I was 5. I don’t want to go into the details. It’s something that hurt me really bad. I’m still the same way. When I open up to trust you, I trust you wholeheartedly. And then when you betray that trust, it closes me up.

Naomi Campbell works out on the beach as she begins rehabilitation on her injured knee
After her harrowing ordeal in which she was left injured, Naomi Campbell is finally back on the mend.
The British supermodel was seen following the doctor's orders as she took a long walk down the beach on Wednesday.
Naomi, 42, was seen getting some exercise in Miami beach, Florida, as part of her rehabilitation from her leg injury.
The super slim star, who has been advised to go on brisk walks, was dressed the part as she prepared to sweat in the sunshine with the cooling sea breeze blowing past her.
She wore a pair of Nike burgundy Spandex three-quarter length bottoms with a matching thin vest.
With her hair free flowing from under her baseball cap and sunglasses hiding her face the model was in good spirits as she put her legs through their paces.
Later in the day she said at a press conference: 'I had an injury of my knee and I am on the mend. I cannot discuss any further as there is an investigation.'
Naomi was left in a wheelchair after thieves attempted to snatch her handbag as she sat in a limousine in central Paris, France, in November 2012.
Revelations about the attack last November came following claims about a ‘violent mugging’ which saw the supermodel end up in a wheelchair.
There were reports that she had been attacked just before Christmas as she tried to hail a taxi in the French capital.
In fact she was already sitting in the car when two men on a motorbike are said to have tried to grab her handbag on November 21.
The attempted snatch took place in Rue de Moussy, in the trendy Marais district of central Paris, just off the Rue de Rivoli.
Nothing was taken, but Ms Campbell filed a complaint at the nearby police station of the 4th arrondissement.
There she refused to have a medical examination, but was later pictured in a wheelchair and wearing a brace.
Sources in New York later claimed Ms Campbell had suffered a torn leg ligament in the bag snatch.
Luckily for Naomi her billionaire boyfriend, Vladimir Doronin, was able to send his private jet to fly her to Vail, Colorado, where she was treated by J. Richard Steadman, one of the world's leading orthopedic surgeons.
"Idol" Judges Go Front And Center On "Hollywood Reporter"
The cast of "American Idol" is featured in the latest issue of "THR" where judge Nicki Minaj expressed her initial reservations about joining the panel. She said,
There's a judgemental culture in hip-hop where sometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it's almost, like, is that even cool?
'Being that accessible, someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person. I'm still surprised that I decided to do it.
Meanwhile, fans should not expect anymore flare-ups between Nicki and fellow judge Mariah Carey. MiMi blew over their previous spat saying,
'Sometimes things get heated for their own reasons. I don't think the panel has an issue.'

Carmelo and LaLa Split?
The rumors have been buzzing for quite some time, neither LaLa nor Carmelo has confirmed the split but according to reports the couple is heading for divorce.

Friends say La La has been living the life of a single woman after separating from Anthony last year. Insiders say La La is keeping herself busy by focusing all of her attention on her son, Kiyan, and filming the 3rd season of her reality TV show, La La’s Full Court Life, which premieres in February. La La recently returned to her old stomping grounds in Atlanta, and tongues were wagging about a certain chick in La La’s entourage who she couldn’t take her eyes off.
Then La La jetted off to Miami, where she rang in the New Year at a luxury South Beach hotel without Melo, who partied in New York with friends. Insiders say La La and Melo are still courteous to each other, for the sake of their son. And they still go out in public together to keep up appearances. But La La has reportedly moved on — with Melo’s blessing!

According to tea spilled by Miss Jia by way of Usher's former bodyguard, Kim Kardashian used to get down with Usher in the past. I'm not sure if this was before or after Tameka and Chilli nor could I tell you if this was anytime around Kris or Reggie.
All I know is that this is an interesting little tidbit.
The Church SPEAKS Petition Cancellation of ‘The Sisterhood’ Reality Show
A few religious and spiritual folk are none too pleased with TLC’s new reality show, ‘The Sisterhood’. If you’re unfamiliar with the show (click here for the first episode), it’s cast and storyline revolves around ‘First Ladies’ and/or women who’s husband is or was involved in ministry. A person by the name of Anne Cooke has stared a petition, suggesting that the show should be canceled because it is a negative and inaccurate portrayal of Christianity.
The petition reads:
The Sisterhood is being portrayed as a Christian reality show, featuring Preacher’s/Pastor’s wives from Atlanta, GA. The previews and highlights of the upcoming show is pure garbage and does not portray the reality of being a Christian or the reality of being a Preacher’s or Pastor’s wife. The airing of this show is not only offensive to the Body of Christ, but it is also degrading to Women of Color (specifically). This show mocks everything that we, as believers, stand for. It is disgusting, disgraceful, inappropriate and an inaccurate display of what we strive to accomplish as Christians. The airing of this show only adds more fuel to the ever-present distasteful stereotype that we, as Christians, fight daily to erase. We must stand together and put an end to TLC’s clear derogatory distortion of the Body of Christ and Women of God (specifically, Preacher’s and Pastor’s wives)! Please spread the word!
Meanwhile, Christina Murray, one of the cast members, has responded to criticism. In an interview with the Christian Post, she explained:
We hated the religious, dogmatic type of church and people who were very judgmental because that’s how they felt they had to be. So when we began this journey we definitely wanted to be real and authentic not only with ourselves but also with our ministry and our congregation, I believe in my faith wholeheartedly and I want to be able to live up to what God expects me to live up to. I want to be the person God is calling me to be.

Oprah Winfrey's "OWN" Adds FOUR New Series
In addition to new scripted series from Tyler Perry (The Haves and the Have Nots; Love Thy Neighbor), Oprah Winfrey's OWN has announced four new series that will be added to the network's lineup. One of the series will feature actress Kym Whitley in a starring role. According to THR, the new series are:
Blackboard Wars
The Discovery Studios-produced docu-series centers on the dramatic transformation of New Orleans’ John McDonogh High School, one of the most dangerous and under-performing high schools in the country, where more than half of its students fail to graduate. The show, which will premiere in March, will go behind the scenes with education maverick Steve Barr and no-nonsense principal Dr. Marvin Thompson as they embark on an unpredictable mission to reinvent and revive the struggling school.
Golden Sisters
The real-life comedy chronicles the hilarious adventures of Mary, Josie & Teresa, three sisters who shot to fame after a web video of the women watching a celebrity sex tape went viral. With Mary in her eighties and her twin sisters only slightly younger, the three raucous senior citizens share their outrageous opinions on everything from sex and dating to celebrities and pop culture. The series hails from LMNO Productions.
Raising Whitley
The tentatively titled Raising Whitley is a Pilgrim Studios-produced docu-series that centers on actress and comedienne Kym Whitley and her group of friends – whom she refers to as "The Village” – as they attempt to do something none of them have ever done before: raise a baby together. The latter comes about when Whitley's mentee in the Big Sister program flees the maternity ward without her baby, leaving only Whitley's contact information to raise the child.
Dogfellas
The Nerd TV-helmed Dogfellas revolves around James “Head” Guiliani, a former street enforcer for the mafia and one of John Gotti’s most trusted men, whose life-changing encounter with a stray dog inspired him to open Brooklyn’s top dog grooming parlor. In addition to pampering canines, Head --who is in a constant battle to pay the bills-- rescues dogs. Between his fiery wife and self-absorbed staff, he has his hands full.

Miranda Lambert Stands Firm Against Chris Brown

If Chris Brown decides to attend the 2013 Grammy Awards in February, he better watch his back for Miranda Lambert!
The country star, who famously slammed the rapper and started a full-on Twitter war with him after he won an award at the 2012 show, three years after his arrest for domestic violence, lashes out against him for the second time in the February 2013 issue of Redbook, and RadarOnline.comhas the details.
"I don't get it. He beat on a girl...Not cool that we act like that didn't happen," Miranda tweeted in February 2012 after he was honored at the show, which enraged the rapper and sent him on a nasty tweeting bender.
"Yeah, I didn’t feel right about not saying something. The loudmouth that I am, I say what I think," the 29-year-old explains about the tweet. "I've got these pistols tattooed on my arm, for God's sake!
"I wanted everyone to know that I don’t agree with the message it's sending to young woman. It’s not okay. At all. To be celebrated after doing something like that." Time, and Brown's reconciliation with Rihanna, hasn't made Mrs. Blake Shelton more lenient on her stance.
"I don't think it's right, I never will, and I will stand by what I said till the day that I die."
But Lambert doesn't consider it a celebrity feud.
"There was no feud. I'm right, they're wrong!"
Both Lambert and Brown are nominated for Grammys. The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles at Staples Center on February 10.
